94 yj, transmission swap

i have an ax15 that has gone bad the syncro 3 and 5 have gone bad. so i figured no better time to do an auto swap than now. i was wondering what transmission would be good and what all i would need to accually do the swap? my jeep has a 96 cherokee 4.0l in it.

I remember reading in some magazine that the AW4 isn't the most desirable transmission. According to Novak, it has "a tendency to generate excessive amounts of heat," and it's "known for unnecessarily consuming more engine power than some other automatics." I'd recommend swapping in a Turbo 350 or a Turbo 700. Both of these were used for years so they should be more common than an AW4.

AW4
Turbo 350
Turbo 700

i don't know about that, may be true. but i do know aw4 is basically made by toyota, it is reliable, and in all my years i've never seen one go bad, and a buddy of mine worked for jeep for 12 yrs, and saw only ONE go bad, and it had over 200k. its a proven trans, and is straight forward to swap in, with computer and wiring easily available.

a turbo 350 would be nice cause i have one sitting in my back yard. but you have to fab up a cross member, then the matting bracket, then get the right t case then the right drive shafts. plus the th350 is to long it would make for some wicked pinion angles
