| Explorer 8.8 Rear end swap
I am looking to swap in an 8.8" as part of my LT1 project. I was wondering if there were any common problems that occur? I have read that the rear is slightly narrower and was wondering about the alignment? It has 4.10" gears and disc brakes so I wont have to change the gears. I was also wondering about the master cylinder if it had to be changed? Thanks.

I also had another question a little off topic. Which Dana 44 front axles are most people running/out of which vehicles? Looking for the best match for my 8.8, thanks.

There's nothing on a YJ that is going to affect your alignment. As long as you weld on the spring perches straight you'll be fine. The 8.8's pumpkin is a bit more offset but nothing that will affect your drive line angles.
The stock wheels are about 5.5" of backspacing so the 1/2" narrower for the 8.8 might give you problems.
I do know a guy that has a TJ front 44 with no brackets on it (including the upper control arm). I know he wants to sell it, but don't know if it'd be worth it to have it shipped from AZ to WV.

Well i know you cant align the front but i was wondering with the narrower axle if the machines could read. I was thinking about get longer wheel studs and spacers. I wanna run 33"s should I get 15x8 istead of 15x10? Cause it looks like the backspacing would work.

Honestly it's only a 1/4" on each side so don't worry about the width of the axle. If you get wheels with 3.75" of backspacing you won't even notice the different. It's actually good for the front to be a tad wider than the rear. Helps the rig track better.

I wanted to run 33/12.50 and I thought 12.5 and wider you were supposed to have 10"wide wheels is this not true?

The 8.8 is an easy almost bolt in swap. There are no alignment issues when usingf it and the backspacing can be the standard jeep backspacing with no ill effects.
Your master cylinder should be fine with discs or drums as that m/c pushes about the same amount of fluid as the ford m/c. You will have to plumb in the lines and if using discs you will have to get two rubber lines for the ends at the calipers.
You can get spacers if you want to even out the wms but it is not necessary as most vehicles are already smaller on the back axle for tracking purposes anyway.

I am getting the axle tomarrow. Now my only worry left is getting vibes from the offset driveshaft. Anyone get these and how bad?

Most axles are offset from the factory, there is no need to wory about the vibes i doubt you will have them from the offset.
