Hardtop problem

I bought a used hardtop for my '95 YJ under the premise it was a "factory hardtop," went to go put on upper-door halves with glass sliders and they didn't fit! How can I differentiate between a factory hardtop and an aftermarket hardtop, ie: bestop? Right now I have the hardtop on and am slamming my square upper door halves just to get the doors to shut in the mean time...Does anyone know how I can tell which is which? I suspect I have a bestop hardtop and will have to give in and buy their upper door halves...

if it is a factory hard top it will have a crysler star in the bottom corner of the side window.87 to 91 will have a handle to open the back glass and 92 to 95 will not have a handle in the back ( do to the 3rd brake light that started in 92) if the upper door sliders do not fit they are prob made by rugged ridge, they made 2 types of uppers . 1 kind fit the factoy soft top . the other was for factory hard tops and other after market sot tops ae..best top super tops. if it is a best top hard top on the vent in the back it will have a best top symbol

Handle

Thank you for the help, my hard top does have a handle in the middle of the glass for the rear window though...I'll check again but I'm fairly sure there aren't any chrysler or Besttop logos...Is it possible that it is a top for a CJ that happens to fit? I'll double check in the morning for the logos but thanks again.

Sam

I can't remember the little trivia things that our customer support team uses to identify hardtops on a YJ. Things like whether it has a rear wiper, etc.

Anyway, take a snapshot of the upper door, the hardtop, and send them to CSBESTOP@Bestop.com. Ask them what your door options are. They will be able to identify what you've got and help you out.

You upper doors are for a factory soft top and have the square top rear corner. They will not fit any hardtop. You need upper doors with the top rear corner rounded or your other option is to buy a set of full steel doors to use with the hardtop.

If the upper doors with the rounded corners dont fit you need to adjust the stops on the bars that slide into the lower doors to properly angle the upper doors.

If the top has a vent behind the side windows its a YJ hardtop. If there is no vent then its a CJ top. If the liftgate has a T handle on it it is a 91 or older top. 92 or newer there is no T handle on the liftgate. A CJ top will fit a YJ but you need to change the rubber pieces that sit in the front corners of the CJ hardtop to fit the YJ windshield frame.

This is EXACTLY the type of trivia I'm talking about. I just can't seem to keep it all straight in my brain.

But then, I'm also careful to park in the same place every day, so I can remember where my car is. Possibly unrelated fact: I went to school in Eugene Oregon.

After owning my YJ since it was new in 91 and building my CJ over the course of a few years I now know all sorts of CJ and YJ info. Now I am working on getting parts to build my wifes TJ so I am trying to cram all sorts of TJ info into my head. I am sure the TJ info will cause me to loose some of the CJ knowledge that I currently have.
