Looking at a '92 Renegade...couple Q's

New to the forum. I'm going to be taking a look at a 92 Renegade 5spd with ~140k miles this weekend. Here's a link to a pic:

100_0166-1.jpg picture by on24hurtemall - Photobucket

This YJ appears to be lifted...can any of you tell about how high? I don't suppose anyone can tell how it's been lifted from the pic (shackle, leaves, etc). If I end up with this Jeep, I would want to bring it down to stock height to make it more useful around our orchards.

What are the Renegade's fenders made of...plastic or fiberglass?

Other than looking at the underbody for rust (looks clean from pics seller sent me), what other things should I look for when checking out this YJ?

I have been told that a Renegade is simply a well-equipped YJ with body kit & different interior cloth. Is there anything else I should know about this model?

And finally, assuming it is in good running condition, would you guys consider $3500 to be a fair price?

I have wanted a YJ or TJ to tool around the ranch with my dog for quite some time. Seems like a much better option that a Mule...

Thanks!

Based on the lowered transfer case plate I would guess 3" lift or so. The fenders will come off.(might take some work due to age) Check for frame rust at rear by spring hangers.. floor boards.. etc. Renegade was just big fenders, bumpers, no lift of any kind. Came with 30x9.50x15 tires as I recall.

I looks like a 3+ inch lift. To each his own, but I have always thought they look really funky with all that plastic. May be ok for a street queen, but looks like it would be a real problem keeping it from getting busted off road.

Thanks guys! I actually like the Renegade rear fenders, and think the front would look good if they didnt make fenders/bumper so long. That being said, I could really care less if the Jeep was a Renegade or not. It will not be seeing any trails, but will spend the majority of it's time off road around our almond & cherry orchards (relatively flat ground that can be very muddy at times) carting me around for daily tasks where I don't need the cargo/load capacity of my truck.

So if I end up with this thing, it will at least have to be lowered to stock height, if not a tad lower (if possible). I know you guys probably think of this as blasphemy, but it does serve a couple of purposes:

1. It would be very helpful to have a lower, open air vehicle (like a Kawasaki mule) so that I might be able to drive through the tree rows without knocking off the crop...figure with a stock or slightly lower-than-stock height wrangler, I can remove the top, fold down the windshield, and then only have to worry about the roll bar. And it'll still be street legal, unlike a neighbor's roofless Jeep GC that he has been using in a similar capacity for years.

2. I have a 125 lb root/bulldog/boxer mix that jumps in & out of my 4wd truck many times daily while I'm doing my work. I have contemplated just lowering the truck's rear end a couple inches (to level) to help save my dog a little wear & tear on his hips & joints. But with all the heavy loads I haul around in my truck, I can't really afford to drop it or it'll be bottoming out all the time. So even a stock height YJ would likely help delay the inevitable veterinary bills that I'll be stuck with a few years from now.
