Hey everyone, Im just gonna go ahead and start building a build thread for my jeep.. Just thought it would help in gettin opinions and help on anything that i need! OH, and BTW, this is the 'poor college kid' edition of a yj build :p haha. but anyway.. ill give a little background..

It all started with a stock Black YJ this summer, when my sister was not digging the stick shift.. she traded it to me for my ford explorer :whistling:

The first thing i did was take the top and doors off.. naturally.. lol. The YJ did have a few problems but i will discuss them later.. heres a pic of when i first got the wrangler, and took it too a mud pit.. :p and then cleaned it off :D

okk, sooo, everyone in my family.. (pretty much) has jeeps.. and mine felt like it was the smallest :/ smallest tires.. smallest engine.. etc.. soo.. i went to a family friend and traded the tires and rims on my jeep to him for slightly bigger tires.. so it didnt look quite so goofy.. heres some pics of it

The next thing was the floor rust and the interior rust and the hack-job of a carpet the guy had in there had to come out.. soo i took out the carpet and duralined the whole inside..

In between some of these more obvious mods, i did some other things too.. with a lot of help from my cousins and uncle, because im not nearly as knowledgable in this area of expertise! lol things that were also done include, new gas tank install.. new fuel filter and pump.. new starter.. fixed electrical work in the dash.. etc.. also bought the half doors and soft top for summer!

Dude, super jealous of the YJ and that you have so much family involved. Nobody in my family understands... :nonono: I love the sweet decals and esp. the one on the windshield!:thumb: I also fit in the "poor college student" group, so I know how that is. I wish I could do a lot more but unfortunately Michigan eats Jeeps for breakfast... In the process of replacing floorboards and may eventually get a lift kit and bigger tires, def. keep your choice in mind. (How much was it btw?) Great thread, keep it up!!!

Then, after a few lucky college refunds, i had the money to finally get new tires to get mounted and installed on my old rims! went with the 33x10.5 KM2s :) and i couldnt be happier! also got some side steps from the cousins and installed those! and some blue shock boots! its really starting to look like a rough jeep now! :D

Any thoughts on what i have done so far? me and my uncle are going to fabricate a stinger-like front bumper next, and im gonna repaint a lot underneath the vehicle and clean it up a bit, but other than that its really coming along!.. thoughts, advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated! no longer the smallest jeep, as u can see :) and i love my 2.5L BTW.

Thanks man! i really appreciate it! ive put a lot of time into it so far, and im learning alot about it! its so addicting :D can wait to start welding.. may have to wait for spring break for that tho :x

bmckinney, i got my tires through a pepboys, 4 33x10.5 km2s including tax, mount, and balance for a little less than $1000. I thought it was a good deal compared to some other options.. i really wanted an aggressive tread unlike an all-terrain.. and these tires are AMAZING! :D

Prometheus, i love the duraliner! i put it in this summer and had enough in the can to do 2 coats :D it washes out very easy to!

Blackstealth, thanks man! im trying real hard!

Nissen, I went with the 4inch rough country and though some people do not like it much.. i actually thought it was cheap, and not too bad of an install, with my uncles help of course :D and i actually love it.. for the price. little rough on the ride, but i also dont mind cause even if i had the money to go for better quality.. its just takin money away from other jeep things :p

Yjgatron, yes its my 1990 baby! (older than me -.-) haha, and i love it! thanks for the compliment!

Glenn, Thanks for the compliments man! We've now got 6 jeeps in the immediate family! including my 1990yj, brothers 1997tj, stepbrothers 2001?tj, stepdads1997tj, uncles1997tj, grampas2010jk. we also have a cousin down the road building up a 1979cj, and his dad building a cj after the 79 is finished! haha

Thanks man! :D i appreciate the support! I hope you really enjoy that lift! i know i doo haha. These tires are insane.. i honestly love them lol for a few reasons.. 1) they look amazing.. 2) i dont lack much power.. 3) they arent loud IMO.. 4) they ride really nicely.. 5) they are very reasonably priced.. IMO of course.. i could go on.. but i love these tires lol post some pics of before and after with the lift kit! im curious to see! :D:popcorn:

Dude that's a sweet YJ. Nice to see another college budget rig being built cuz I'm in the same boat and pretty much at the same point in the build haha time to get a welder and melt stuff!

#24 ·
haha thatta boy man! my uncle will teach me how to weld over spring break, and hopefully we will construct a stringer-like bumper.. and build our own fenders.. :D then im gonna remove the sway bar and see how it flexes/rides. other than that i will be waitting til the summer when i have a summer job to dump more money into it.. like more lightting and whatnot :punk: but so far im happy with my build!

#25 ·
Sweet stuff. I'm going for a roll cage, SOA possibly, and whatever else looks weld-able haha. In a couple months my wheeling buddy is getting back from deployment and he's putting a striker in his Cherokee. I get his 4.0 when that happens! Can't wait to go fuel injected and drop the 4.2!

#26 ·
haha, thatta boy! im just working at it slowly but surely.. gonna keep the 2.5l in. honestly, i like the 2.5L lol. it has plently of power for anything i need really.. around town.. crawling.. or whatever.. but im liking the way my jeep is transforming :D

They are on 15x8 rims, just stock rims.. haha :p but thank you very much! i will be doing more to her pretty soon im hoping :D

That makes sense. I haven't ever driven a 4 cyl but they are Jeeps none the less so they earn my respect haha
haha good point my man :D gotta respect that 2.5L :p
