i kno this question has been asked alot but i went thru all the pages and didnt see anything on it. im gettin a set of axles this weekend a dana 30/35 with lockers that are already set up for soa. the main reason im gettin them is my rear 35 has bad bearings and i needed a quick cheap replacement. i figure once i get everything set up for soa and the jeep on the road again ill just find a dana 44 and have it rebuilt. anyway i need to know how much lift soa will give me with stock springs and 1 1/2 inch shackles. ive heard u get about 4 1/2 inchs out of it but im not sure. and do u guys think i could use shims to reangle my rearend and use a t-case drop for a few weeks while i get an sye it will only be street driven till the sye is in i just want it to be driveable if needed

With just a SOA conversion, you will net somewhere in the neighborhood of 5.5" typically.

5.5 min. without shackles. if your springs are old replace them now with stock replacements, old springs will quickly sag and axle wrap. better yet, ditch shackles, so both sides of springs are equal again, and replace old springs with 2" springs (if you think you need that much). i don't even think you could get away without the sye, driveshaft, and reset pinion angle, hopefully the axles that are already set up are close to having good pinion angle. people don't realize that the driveshaft flexes on the road, you are risking damaging output shaft on t-case, or losing drive shaft on road. you need to do sye even if you aren't gonna wheel it yet. soa isn't exactly cheap, you need longer brake lines, sye, d shaft, shocks, track bar brackets (which always come loose if you don't weld them) t-case drop, sway bar disconnects (no point in skippin this), drop pitman arm-and you'll still probably run into a problem with steering links. i love the spring over, and lockers are pretty. but if you want cheap, a bearing set for your rear end will be less than $100 total. it is easier than installing spring over, just use a machine shop for some press work.

i won't ever talk someone out of a spring over, and lockers, but you are now signing up for real. that is a serious set up, and is not going to be cheap. and locking the stock d35, is a guarantee to break something. don't wanna come off wrong, but just make sure you know what you're getting into. good luck

yea i figured itd be alot of money im still gunna do it as my rear end is still working. i thought my pinion seal was bad but a rear end shop told me it was the pinion bearings allowing the shaft to move causing gear oil to be thrown everywhere. i just plan to buy everything i need for the time being and hope the rear doesnt go. ill prolly lose the shackles and get sum stock springs as 5.5 is all i need for 33s, and i kno the 35 isnt a good rear end but im gunna use it temporarley untel i can find a dana 44. my big question is i already took off my rear track bar and my sway bar it drives fine now but will i really need them at 5.5 cuz i love being able to flex at anytime without removing the pins. i now have the list of parts jpdocdave gave me but if anyone else has anything they wanna add thatd be great. im not worried about doing the work i can turn a wrench well i just didnt wanna mess with the rear end because everyone tells me u need to have everything perfect and theres special tools never really looked into it tho.

i ditched the rear track bar on mine, and drove it daily no probs. i've had the front disconnected whend driving, you can tell the difference, body roll in turns. i'd suggest getting the disconnects, but hey, try it first.

jpdocdave you mean the anti sway bar?

im running no sway bars or track bars, front or rear

on mine, i removed rear track bar, and had disconnects for front sway bar, and relocated front track bar. i'm drawing a blank here, but i really don't think yj's have rear sway bars, only the track bar in back, pretty much similar concept. rides a lot smoother with no track bar in back, and flexes better.

buffalo-do you do much daily driving?? some people have tried to tell me without the track bars the axle can move side to side. i never had any probs.
