Default transmission swap

I have a 97 wrangler 2.5, ax5 trans. I have had this tranny out three times and this time a couple of gears are shot. I would like to upgrade to a better tranny. I have heard about the ax15 being a good swap. Has anyone done this and if so, what is involved. I am pretty hands with tools and I can handle the work. Just limited on money. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Will the bell housing on the ax5 fit the ax15?

input shafts are different also, but someone on here once said that theres a 2.5 in a dodge dakota or something that came with the ax15 trans and not ax5, so that bell housing and trans would work, but i never heard anything about it again, so can't be too sure.

yeah i think its like 1996-200?. I know the 96 fits because I used one. If you do your shopping correctly it can be cheaper than most options. It does include alot of wrench time. And get ready to use your sailor's dictionary of fine words of choice when removing the top bolts on the bellhousing. Im finishing this exact swap this weekend so if you decide to do I will help all I can. When I get around to it Im gonna do a write up but until then just pm me with questions
