Drama related to moving?? I hate it when you get all your boxes unpacked and then realize all the stuff you needed right away is in the boxes that are hardest to get to. Haha! That always happens to me...

Hahaha! Gotta love it when they do that. Mine give me more of a guilt trip so then I volunteer to take stuff. Like: "well... It's been in the family for a while..." or "we've had this since you were born..." one thing I DON'T regret taking is my grandma's old 1959 Buick! Needs a little work, but she's a beautie!

By the way... How'd the volunteering go?

Haha guilt trips. Yepp. Know exactly how that is. "oh... Well, I thought you'd want it.....:/" FINE!!! I'll take it!!!! Haha

The volunteering was awesome! We found tons of subsidences! I'm going out again today. Thanks for asking that's so sweet!

Hahaha! Exactly. That's good to hear volunteering went well. What do you do? What are subsidences? I know I could do a quick google search.. But I'm lazy. Haha!

A friend of mine had a job (or maybe she volunteered - not sure) at ISU where they would go out and take sediment samples and water samples from bodies of water around Iowa and then they'd go through the samples and see what organisms and other things they could find. I'm pretty sure there's other jobs involving different areas in the Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Sorry, just thought it sounded like something you might want to check out.

I think you can check that stuff out after you get your "Access+" account. (You'll find out about it during orientation.) After you log-in you'll want to look in the bottom-left part of the page... I'm pretty sure... I forgot my login info, otherwise I'd check it out myself. Just thought I'd let you know - there might be something that interests you - you get to help professors/researchers in the field you're interested in AND you could get paid. Haha!

Subsidences are like sink holes caused by underground mine shafts. I just help go out and survey and make maps and stuff. Conservation!

Yeah that's definitely something I'm interested in!!! I'm looking into different internships I can participate in while I'm in school and the summer after my first year. It will be great!!

I'll have to check out accessplus later... Like you, I'm too lazy . I creeped on you!!! Engaged?!?! Congratulations!!!!! Did you meet her at Isu?!

Are there really that many mine shafts here in Iowa? That's cool! Do you ever get to find the mouths of the mines or go down into any of them? I think that'd be REALLY cool. Do you have an accessplus account already? I didn't get mine until orientation. That'd be cool to be able to get involved with that stuff if you could! Haha! How'd day 2 of sink-hole finding go?

You were creepin' on me?! Why?? Haha! No no... I'm not engaged. I did that as a joke like a year back and never changed it. I DO have a girlfriend; her name is Nicole. We didn't meet at ISU, but she did attend ISU. She graduated when I was a freshman. She's like 3 years older than me, so I like to give her crap about that.

Side note! nick50471, I MAY have seen you when I was leaving Clear Lake today! I think you have a green Jeep... And I know you're in the area! Is this you?

Attachment 133789

If it WAS you, I was the creep driving the P.O.S. S-10 ZR2 that sat at the gas pumps staring at your rig, trying to work up the nerve to come chat you up... I chickened out and took the picture as I was leaving the gas station...

Nice jeep set up!!!!!!!!!! Love it!!!! Fun!!!

Sink hole finding went great lol. We didn't find anymore but we chatted about men for a long time. An irritating topic but fun to discuss. I havent gone down into an entrance yet but I know where they are. But yeah, Iowa is covered in shaft mines down here. I got an accessplus account when I accepted my admissions offer.

I creeped... Because I just like to creep!!!! Lol. It's fun!! And that's cool! Older women? what did she go for?

I know, right?! Those would be quite a muddin' duo! I know it's not the same as the red one they had on the trailer... But my dad used to have a Ranger ATV and that thing was SO MUCH FUN! It almost caused me to try to take my Jeep off-road! ... ALMOST.

Chatted about men?? I'm intrigued! I always like to hear women's thoughts on the male species. It's always interesting. Hahaha! Are there not any guys in your group??

You haven't gone IN one?! Knowing where they open up would be too tempting NOT to go down one for me. I'd probably get myself killed though. The mine shafts are probably pretty unstable at this point, eh? If you DO happen to venture down one, you should totally tell me about it! I love stuff like that.

When you're up in the Ames area, you should check out "Ledges State Park" it's like 20 minutes south-west of Ames, but it's beautiful - plus there's lots of out-croppings and what-not to climb and explore if you know where to go. The trails aren't anything special, but they can be fun to walk around on too.

Hahaha! Hey now! It's not like I go for older women, it just happened that way. She was in Psych. as well, though I don't think she really had a goal in mind for when she graduated. She teaches dance to kids now. Haha!

I do have a green TJ but that is not me. That truck stop is very close to my Mom's place. I drive by it everyday.

As for mines. A lot of mining is done in Fort Dodge. They mine gypsum for drywall. A lot of mining is done in Mason City for limestone for concrete. Central and southern Iowa had a lot of coal mines but they were all strip mined.

FYI

Dang! I thought I spotted ya! Haha! Too bad, so sad. I'm glad I didn't walk up to them thinking it was you though. I would've looked foolish bringing up the forums.

My Dad's place is just off South Shore Dr. in Clear Lake. I was there all day checking up on his place and working on his boat. He was happy when I called him and told him I got it workin' for him again. Sadly, when I finally got everything finished, it started raining.. So no boat cruise.

I knew they mined SOMETHING here... There's a huge lake that was formed out of a strip mine(?) just north of town. I didn't know about all of the others. Who would've known Iowa would be good for something other than crops and education? Haha! Joking joking...

I saw this thread where this guy changed his interior lights to blue. I'd like todo that. Haha but I am not good at all I'll have to explore.

Egh... No good. He back home then? If so... At least you're out of that situation! I'm sure there's a lot of people that CARE. I care and I don't even know you. I hate that business... NO ONE needs that...

That'd be sick!! I helped my dad do it in a 1960 Chevy Wagon... It was fairly easy, but I feel like that would be totally different... Haha! There's a lot of DIY tutorials on many topics out there.

I did a quick search (because it's something I've been interested in as well...) and found some guy giving basic instructions on how he did it:

Steps:
1. Remove the 6 screws holding on the plastic dash cover.
2. Remove the 6 screws holding the guage cluster in. (Note: Do not remove the plastic gauge cover, you will take a chance of breaking or messing up your needles.)
3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back.
4. Remove the old bulbs and replace with the new LED's. (Note: Make sure you do them one at a time I believe they are directional and will not work if reversed, but I may be wrong.)
Installation is in reverse.
Check to make sure all bulbs are working BEFORE you put it all back together. (I am speaking from experience.)
Sounds simple enough... If you need tools or an extra hand, let me know when you're going to be in town with your Jeep!

And here's a good LED supplier I bookmarked a while back when I was originally looking things up... Autolumination

Like I said, I've been thinking about it... But have yet to attempt it. To be honest, I just got my gauge panel working again (after 2 years of randomly working and this year all of the sudden completely giving out) , but I think in re-wiring, I created a short somewhere.. So after I get THAT figured out I might give it a try. You'll have to let me know if you try, and maybe give me a look-see! Haha!

Yeah... He's back home.... But I am going to be in pa until the middle of August. And he's my best friends older brother so I see him all the time :/ but thanks. It really means a lot you're a really nice guy!

Oh my thank you!!!!!! I was going to follow this one guys shotty instructions but was like eeehhhhh what?! Haha. I love blue. But idk I'll have to see how it would look. Camo seat covers. Silver paint. Ehhhh. Not sure. But it will be awesome! What color would you do? I'm headed to Ames right now for Day 1 of orientation. If I see your jeep around I'll try to creep!

Oooh... Rough situation. I didn't know you were going back until school started! I thought you'd moved. My bad. I would think your brother could say or do something. My friends and I would tease my sister, but if any of them were to harass her, I'd be whoopin' his ass on the spot. And I don't know about nice... But thanks! Haha!

I hope those helped! Those instructions work perfectly for MY Jeep - but it's an 89.... I haven't been in any newer-model Jeeps (I've actually never been in a Jeep other than my own since I got it) so I wasn't sure if they were set up the same... Like I said, if you need or want help I'm usually just kickin' it during the day and working by night - so I'm available if you need a hand. I've actually taken my dash and gauges apart at least 5 times and 3 of the times have been in the past few months. My temp, fuel, oil and battery panel is actually sitting on my floor right now. Haha!

I agree the blue LED might look a little funky with a camo seats... Though I think if you could see the glow from the outside, it'd look REALLY cool with the silver! But who cares? It's YOUR Jeep! It's not like you can see both the instrument panel and your seats simultaneously when you're driving. I've been thinking about red, since my Jeep is red, my seats are black and red and my dash, instrument panels, door panels and carpet are all black.

Oh! Right! Orientation starts today! Good luck! Let us know how it goes! I fell asleep during the Accessplus and Cymail orientation. Hahaha! Hopefully you hold up better. I doubt you'll be seeing my Jeep unless you decide to creep around the "ghetto" of Ames. There's no REAL ghetto... But I live next to the "low income housing" neighborhood which most people refer to as the ghetto - Tripp St. and East 7th would both be places to avoid walking alone at night... If you do happen to find yourself in the Tripp St. area, my Jeep is parked up in my driveway with a blue S-10 parked behind it on the slope. Feel free to holler at me - my back door (which opens up to my driveway) is usually open.

My head cylinder gasket is starting to get a little leaky and I'm waiting for a new one to come in so I can fix it before I drive my Jeep again... I replaced one about one or two years ago with a cork one I got from the stealer (dealer) and it's ALREADY gone bad! Why would they give us something like cardboard or cork for a head gasket?! Honestly... This time I ordered a neoprene one online - hopefully I wont be needing to replace it for a while... I'm thinking while I'm at it I'll try to do the "nutter bypass" on my Jeep as well. I just need to find someone with a timing light...

I love off-roading. I used to have an old F-250 5-speed I'd go ditch crawling And muddin' in... And I grew up with a Yamaha Blaster and later my dad got a Ranger ATV which I did all sorts of fun stuff in... Hahaha! Its not the same, I know.. Someday I'll have the money for another Jeep... THEN I'll take THAT Jeep wheeling... My Baby? NEVER.

AHH! HEY!
I was wondering... If I didn't have you as a friend on Facebook I would've thought you died on me! Haha! Understandable though. I can imagine you'd be pretty busy with trying to get everything ready to move/moved!

Hmmm.... Not sure... I thought the thread was dead! Haha!

On a previous subject.... Monday I ordered 10 194-type Red LED lights for my Dash... Should be in by the end of the week.

I got them from the site I linked to you before. I feel pretty confident in my ability to do it. Want me to do a mini-tutorial type thing for you? I'm going to be installing them the day I get them for sure!

When are you coming back??

EDIT:
I just noticed this... Look at both of our post-counts! IRONIC! Your "come back" post was 238 and my reply happened to be my 238th...

Yeah, 10... 2 in the Speedo, 2 in the Tach and 6 in the Gauge cluster. I got mine in the mail earlier today (technically yesterday) and had them all installed in less than 15 minutes! That included taking apart and putting my dash back together. It was pretty simple.

I saw that on Facebook! They look sweet! Your dash looks a lot more complicated than mine was... I'm not sure how exactly you'd go about it, but I'm sure further research will reveal the answers! Haha! If I remember to, I'll try to do some digging into it myself later today.

Ah! Nice! Actually, no, I haven't... You're talking about the "Iowa Fair" right (for the State - in Des Moines)? Supposedly it's really cool - and one of the nation's best vacation spots..? I never thought of a fair as a vacation-location... Anyway, growing up I lived too far north to make it worth my parents' time to drive down there... It would've been a 3 hour drive - one way... I suppose I have no excuse now, eh? I'm just too lazy.

Looks really good! Was it difficult to get the dash ones in?

Haha! Butter on a stick?! Really?? I'll have to check that out! Do they make you sign a waiver for that? Sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen! Haha!
