WOHVA Updates October'2011

WOHVA Update October, 2011
Since our last update, WOHVA has been working diligently assuring that environmentally responsible OHV recreational opportunities remain available nationwide and are expanded here the Badger State.

Just a few of the things WOHVA has been up to recently include:

WOHVA mailed RTA Grant Funding Announcements to all WOHVA Supporting Groups. The Announce details WOHVA plans and timeline for completion of the rehabilitation of Forest Service Road #904385. Additionally, the Announcement also informs each Supporting Groups exactly what each Group and their members can do to assist in this extremely important project. This is the first of a multiphase plan to address environmental and safety concerns on The Pipeline 4X4 Trail in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Successful completion of the project is crucial to the long-term availability of the Pipeline to motorized recreational enthusiasts. WOHVA will present a complete project overview and update at the WOHVA Fall Trails Update on October 22nd in Fredonia, Wisconsin (just north of West Bend).

The September 2011 Issue of Badger Tracks (WOHVA’s newsletter) saw publication last month. Articles included in this issue include: High-Centered (a new regular feature focusing on one simple thing you can personally do to advocate for access here in the Badger State), WOHVA’s Ridge Line Creek Clean-Up and Pavement Patriotism by Del & Stacie Albright. Visit our website for this latest issue. Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) staffers from the Laona/Lakewood Ranger District and WOHVA met to discuss details for WOHVA’s current RTP Grant to rehabilitate the major access route for heavy equipment to Forest Road #55552 (The Pipeline). Discussion centered on trail implementation of the current Grant and extended maintenance (as well as future funding) for The Pipeline. WOHVA anticipates hands-on implementation of the First Grant for The Pipeline to begin on-the-ground work in early September. Watch the WOHVA Website for updates on how you can assist WOHVA in saving this valuable motorized recreational resource with your volunteer efforts.

Volunteers from WOHVA staffed “The Ticket Booth on the Hill” at the Crandon International Off-Road Raceway for the Labor Day Weekend races. WOHVA volunteers worked the booth all day Sunday to support our partners at the Forest County Chamber of Commerce.

WOHVA would like to again thank all those who sacrificed their weekend to volunteer and assist. WOHVA Volunteers ROCK!

WOHVA (representing the Crandon Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc.) addressed the monthly meeting of the Forest County Economic Development Partnership (FCEDP) held in the Forest County Potawatomi Tribal Auditorium in Crandon, Wisconsin. As a result of that meeting, FCEDP has agreed to contribute up to $1000 to assist CORVPI in filing their 501(c)(3) paperwork with the Internal Revenue Service. CORVPI anticipates having all the forms completed and filed with the IRS prior to the end of 2011.
The Forest Republican featured an article reporting on WOHVA’s Recreation Aids Grant in the Thursday, September 8th Issue of their newspaper. The article can be found on Page 32. The Land Use Committee from United Four Wheel Drive Associations (UFWDA) held their scheduled meeting this past month. WOHVA is represented on the committee which brings land use issues from across the globe to the forefront allowing those in attendance to gain perspective on issues faced by their peers in other regions. Minutes and reports from this meeting will be available in an upcoming issue of UFWDA’s E-News.

WOHVA met with Grant Managers from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to gather information on changes to the Wisconsin RTA Grant Program. WOHVA’s goal is to better advantage of these changes to assure the future of 4WD & OHM trails on your public lands here in the Badger State. Staff from the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) and WOHVA met and discussed several possible funding solutions to address actions necessary to address the long-term sustainability of The Pipeline 4X4 Area on the eastern border of the CNNF. These discussions are part of WOHVA’s approach to working with the CNNF (as outlined in our recent Joint Memo of Understanding) assuring that motorized recreation enthusiasts have a voice in decisions which impact access to your public lands.

WOHVA attended the regular monthly meeting for the Crandon Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (CORVPI). CORVPI recently received financial commitments from three organizations (Forest County Board Economic Development Committee, Forest County Economic Development Partnership & WOHVA) to assist in the establishment of a Motorized Recreation Area in Forest County.

Regular updates on CORVPI and all WOHVA special projects can be found in the “Projects” window located on the WOHVAWebpage. Project Updates are available to WOHVA Individual Members on-line and are provided quarterly to WOHVA Supporting Groups and clubs/organizations that have expressed interest by contacting WOHVA and offering their assistance in helping WOHVA expand OHV opportunities here in the Badger State.
WOHVA held our annual “Fall Pipeline Trail Day” to benefit and rehabilitate The Pipeline 4X4 Trail located in the Laona/Lakewood Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

WOHVA’s current RTP Grant allows WOHVA Volunteers to offset WOHVA’s portion of this 50/50 Grant through their volunteer efforts working on the Grant Project. A huge WOHVA Thank You goes out to all those dedicated motorized recreation enthusiasts who spent their Saturday working to keep The Pipeline available to motorized recreation.

WOHVA presented a donation to the Sokaogon Chippewa Veterans in Mole Lake, Wisconsin. The donation was made possible as the result of WOHVA’s Joint Memo of Understanding (MOU) with the Sokaogon Chippewa and Jeep Jamboree USA. WOHVA’s MOU allows for 5 years (2008 – 2012) of motorized recreational event access to the Sokaogon Chippewa holdings in and around the Mole Lake Indian Reservation in Forest County. The donation is a portion of the proceeds from WOHVA’s 16th Annual Northwoods-Mole Lake Jeep Jamboree held this past July.

WOHVA participated in the first monthly meeting of the Lake States Resource Alliance (LSRA) Land Use & Legislation Committee (LULC). The LSRA is in the process of giving their organization an improved direction and focus. Part of this new direction is using sub-committees such as (LULC) to facilitate organization operations. Other newly created committee’s include: Finance & Nominations, By-Laws & Fund Raising, Membership & Marketing and Communications & Projects.

“Remember, join and advocate (that’s) the two most important things that you
can do!”
