Hey guys, in about a week I'm going to be moving back from California. While I was out here I tapped into my inner lewis and clark and started roaming the outdoors. Now it's become a huge part of my lifestyle. I'm looking for suggestions for places to go for mountain biking and kayaking. Anywhere from Wisconsin down to Kentucky.
check out Brown County in southern Indiana.. home of the Hoosier National Forest.. the most beautiful place on earth. all kinds of historical sites.mountains. all kinds of stuff to do..
Shade State park and Turkey run were always my favorites growing up, we rarely went any further south than that because my dad felt that the trip from Lafayette to Indianapolis required a week of planning and preparation. I think I might venture way down south and see what kind of trouble I can get into this spring.
There are a LOT from what I gather on here Jeepers in Southern IN Mid North KY...however I know of 2 good places/ ORV in MI..and I am partial to MI as it closer than everything so far south...where in IN you going to be?
I might be staying in Lafayette for a while. Grew up there and realized it's not so bad afterall. I used to frequent the Badlands alot in my full size GM's but from what I hear it's not as fun as it used to be. I really got spoiled in California with all of the free use of public land. Indiana is pretty greedy with it's natural beauty and resources. I can't just pull off the side of the road, pull my bike out of the back and start bombing around and eventually set up camp like I can out here. Im gonna miss that .
Yeah we have none of that here....but better chances in MI at least they seem to understand a little...and KY isn't that far from Laffayette...would be closer than MI...I go to MI for the "Salt Free" waves and sunsets..as well as the wheeling. They like us up there...look for the blessing of the Jeeps next spring!!
So only a couple hours on top of the trip to Fort Wayne? I've made the trip to "Da Fort" dozens of times. Two hours on the 24 at 55 mph is a soul killer.
actually the area I go to is about 2.5 to 3 hours for the "coast" of Lake MI...but it is more straight North of you whereas I have to go very far West.....no for a quick wheeling day...Bundy Hill is only an hour or so north of the Fort...but no beach or really nice places to stay....but good wheeling...there is also Red Bird and Haspin (both in IN) but compared to CA it is all a joke as far as wheeling goes. unless you go way up north in MI
Haspin was fun, dangerous but fun. I learned not to go into Laurel at night if you have good teeth. I also learned that people will get smashed and ride their quads right through your campsite.
I've never heard of redbird. I looked up Bundy hill and some google images of Mi offroading. Seems like my kind of place. I don't really like stomping around in underbrush too much
MI is better choice for you than....and yeah Redbird/ Haspin/ IMO are similar to Badlands Attica now...that is why I prefer MI...there is a new place opening that is members only..it is only about 30 min from Fort Wayne...let me know if interested in meeting up this way some time....it is not real tough but fun little more muddy than I really enjoy....clay mud so very sticky..will test your picking the right lines real quick.
yes Sun the 9th...we are just using their lot as a meeting place....no one is part of ODZ to my knowledge just look for a bunch of Jeeps...lot of lifted xjs a few JKs and TJs
Hey glad to meet you in person and not just see you at Jeep stuff.....Red will be okay already thinking/ checkin' if I wanna loose the mirrors and go to a quick take off type mirror or replace that one or fix that will have to wait and see.
Was pretty happy with how Red did today and only a little trail damage...did see where the paint was gone on the rails on the passenger side...and I was only 15 min late for the Bday party...not a bad day!!
