Indian River Route Feedback

Anyone have experience running the Indian River Route in the northern LP? Thinking about giving it a go next weekend. Can it be done solo, or is it
best with a wingman?

I would be interested in a nice Map or GPS file of a good route in that area too.

I'm heading that way for the 4th weekend and If I had a nice route planned out, I might be able to squeeze a ride in.

The Indian River Route is safe to run on your own, it is flat and sandy, mostly maintained to snowmobile trail width. The DNR map should contain .GPX data files if you need/want to use GPS, and the paper maps are updated regularly and are accurate. You can also purchase GPS data from VVMapping to if you use MX or ATV in addition to a Jeep, Jeramy maintains great data files on his website.

Paul,
I have always had a question regarding these maps.

How do you know when the ORV trails and routes overlap?

http://www.vvmapping.com/trails/mapP...k_StHelen1.pdf

We can travel on the Dotted line correct?
Take, for example coming down counter clock wise from the Gas in St. Helen, cross over S. St. Helen Road and then?

You are correct - on the map you referenced, starting on the left at the gas station (shameless plug for Freddie's, gas, food and air) the route travels in an arc back around to M76, crosses the highway, and dead ends about 400 yards into the woods. the VV Mapping maps do a better job than the DNR maps - VV Mapping shows the biggest vehicle allowed where they overlap, whereas on the DNR maps the solid lines (ATV trail) cover up the dashed lines (ORV Routes).

For the St Helen maps, stay tuned - the proposed "bucket" of ORV routes in the area has been tentatively approved, connecting a lot of the little bits and pieces of route in the area. Not such a big deal for 4x4 users, but should make a whole lot more opportunities open up for non-SOS licensed SxS users. We are still working out the details, but we should get Pinball Alley back too.

Not to Hijack the thread, BUT....................... are there any maps for the West Branch area?
I know we've run there with Gangbusters (and the GLFWDA Prez) Its a fun place to go.

Been a while since I have been to this forum and came across this -- Do you have any additional information about these St Helen routes? Thanks

The proposal has been approved, with the exception of Pinball Alley and Median Rd south of the MSA. Still some work to be done there before that becomes part of the system. The rest will be marked in the spring before Memorial Day, DNR maps should be updated about the same time.

I'm just starting to explore the St Helen routes. Thanks for the info.
