I would love to - us under-tire'd guys gotta stick together. Waiting to see if UFWDA sets up something in CO for next summer, Moab is only a hop-skip-jump from Grand Junction relatively speaking, once you have gone that far. We have been running sample budgets for drive the Jeep/stay in motels; drive the Jeep/pull the camper/replace the transmission when we get home; or trailer the Jeep behind the Durango to see what makes sense. As much as I would like to tow my off-highway popup out there and camp someplace cool and remote, just not sure I want to tow my camper through the Rockies with I6/42RLE combo. Already rebuilt the trans twice...

Dad and I drove the LJ to Manchester NH in 2008 for the UFWDA meeting...700+ miles each way. My buttocks feel your pain!

And yes, my tires are huge - 32.8" brand new at 45psi. The label says 33, so that's what I call them!

Chris and I are planning on a moab trip in the spring of 2014. We are gonna fly there and rent jeeps and hit moab. Its almost 2 grand cheaper to do it this way then to tow ours.

we took two rigs, on one gooseneck, pulled by one diesel. 4 guys split fuel and lodging. we each only spent 500$ on fuel and the cabin we rented.
we split gas in the trail rigs for 7 days. then each paid for our own fuel, our souveniers, and our own tattoos.

i only spent 800$ for a 10day trip.

we averaged 9-10mpg. the four of us alternated driving. drove straight out. stayed in a cabin at Moab Valley RV Resort, right inside of town across the river. the cabin had a queen bed, a full bed, and bunk beds. also had a fridge, cable tv, and a grill.
we ate out for breakfast every day, and we ate out for dinner all but one day(which we grilled). then we drove straight through on the way home, again alternating drivers.
we had the lodging and fuel budgeted before we left, and we came within 15$ of our budgeted fuel.
