New to Michigan....

I am currently moving from El Paso, Texas to New Baltimore, Michigan and am wondering about any local Jeep/4x4 clubs in the area. I just separated from the US Army and just got a job with Chrysler. I am only a little familiar with New Baltimore (my wife is from there) so I'm not sure about surrounding cities and proximity. I'm leaving behind Ol'Skool 4x4 here in El Paso and some fantastic trails in neighboring New Mexico. The desert here is amazing for off-road and camping, going to miss it. Hoping to find a good crew of Jeepers up in Michigan. I'm not really into mudding, but I love camping and trail runs.

Ehren

First, Congrats on the Job. I work there also.
Second, you're going to have to change your username!

There are no trails in SE Michigan. Up near the middle of "Da Mitten" is the place to go.
West Branch is great for trail riding. St. Helens has a scramble area. Rocks and Valleys is an offroad park in Harrison, it has something for everyone.

We are picking up a Little guy camper tomorrow, so we will be doing a bit more weekend trips.

Thanks for the info, I was looking at Rocks and Valleys and Bundy. That's disappointing that there are no trails close, unfortunate when your rig gets about 8 mpg.

Can't change the user name, I know it's Tiger country, but I'm from Boston and the wife is now a convert, although I did make a deal with my father-in-law that since my wife switched teams, I would route for U of M.

Thanks guys, hopefully my first Michigan winter doesn't kill me. I've been in the desert for about a decade.

There are quite a few clubs out of southern Michigan that do regular trips with camping and trails! What lies beyond, thumb jeeps, trail creepers, cala offroad to name a few! Also if you check out GLFWDA (Great Lakes four wheel drive association) they have a list of clubs also! Welcome to the mitten state! Almost all of the clubs I named have Facebook pages so check it out!

Haha, Thanks. (He says 5 months later)

I am in Michigan, it's cold. How do you people live like this??!!

I was trying to mentally prepare myself, but I wasn't ready for snow and cold this early.

I am interested, getting bored. I do go to school in addition to work, plus family, but I need to meet some fellow area Jeeple.

I'm in the NW Metro Detroit area. Welcome to Michigan, and welcome to Chrysler.

The Mounds up in Ortinville is kinda fun. There is a new ORV park in Oakland county that I haven't been to yet. There are a handful of clubs in this corner of the state. The first one that comes to mind is Thumbs (?). I have a loose knit group of ragtag off roaders that I wheel with.

A good friend of mine was down there. He's at GM now.
I'm in the Tooling Analysis Group, first floor of the tower.

The New park in Oakland county is not open yet. We did the event there a couple weeks ago.
From talking with a couple of those involved, If they get the funding it will be open in two years.
The site has a lot of potential, but was only 35 acres for the Demo weekend.

There are a couple of good clubs over near your new home - I would look at Blue Water Jeep Owners Club (Port Huron Area) and/or Thumb Jeeps.

All of the public land opportunities are going to involve a bit of a drive, as will the public/private parks. The Mounds is closest to you, Bundy Hill near Jackson, MI and Rocks and Valleys in Harrison are the other two closest, but not real close.

I know cross posting promotes bad 4x4 karma, but one of the best places around town to find out what is going on is Trail Rides & 4x4 Events - Great Lakes 4x4. The largest offroad forum in the Midwest

Welcome to Michigan and Welcome to FCA (Chrysler). I am in suite W3000 at CTC. We try to make trips to Rocks and Valleys and Bundy about once a month. My rig gets 13 MPG so yes it sucks to drive her but I did not buy it for gas mileage. Keep an eye out in the Michigan Forum on here and the GLFWD website. Come on out and have some fun.

Thanks, everyone. I look forward to getting out. Not sure I'm going to be able to join a club, at least not right away. With school and work, I don't have a lot of free time to go to meets and runs. Not that there is a ridiculous amount of required attendance, but I don't want to start the process, then not make a bunch of meetings. I really liked What Lies Beyond, but it's an hour away to their meetings, just not possible right now. I would like to get out with some people, so I will keep checking the site.

Shoot me a message when your planning a run up there.
My son has been wanting to go up again with his XJ.
