Carb. question

I just took ownership of an 88' YJ everything minus the tub is GM 1-ton with sb 350 it currently has a Holly 4 barrel and looking for oppinions on whether to keep the Holly or change over to Webber or Rochester, also would I be even better off doing the throttle body inj. and if so what would I need to go with it and about how much money. Also looking for some shorty Headers. Thanks for your help George.

What are you going to use your jeep for? What model Holley is it?

Holleys are fantastic carburetors which allow you to adjust everything so simply. Once tuned, it stays tuned. Your Jeep's previous owner probably put on a Holley with "vacuum secondaries" which is the best one to have for "street duty".

Fuel injection systems run from $1,000- 2,000. I don't know if that is in your budget OR necessary. I am very content with my Holley and wouldn't change it.

Thanks for the reply I'm not that up on gas unfortunatly, However if you give me a diesel I can make those sing, I'm not that sure of what model it is I'm guessing it's a 700 cfm, and as far as wheeling I plan on a mix of crawling climbing and only mud if it's on the trail. My cocern is on a carb isn't there a point where too much angle will stall the engine or no?As I say I'm a diesel tech just never played with gas. Thanks again. George

Holley makes a "truck avenger" carburetor for steep angles off road. Generally your best bet rock crawling is fuel injection and then you don't have to worry about it. The only problem is the cost of it.

You do have another alternative... use your jeep within its design parameters. If you know your jeep will flood going through four feet of water, then don't go through four feet of water. Its a simple solution that works. I used to own a WWII Willy's and I went everywhere in the field with it, and others BUT IT HAD ITS LIMITATIONS. Once I realized that, I used them to my advantage.

If rock crawling is what you want to do, GREAT but I would really consider saving up the money for a fuel injection system. You don't need your carburetor stalling going up a hill or coming down for that matter.

Well I have found out that I do have a Truck Avenger carb on it, However it is only good to about 40 deg. before it will stall out, so fuel inj. here I come.
