Does anybody know what the law is when it comes to fender flares and tires? Are the fender flares suppose to cover the tires or is it alright for the tires to stick out beyond the fender flares? Thanks for your help.
In most places that enforce, the flare has to cover the tread of the tire. Some police will use a stick to make sure you're legal. The stock wrangler flares only cover the tread, not the fat part of the tire.
I bought my tj with it's 35" swampers from texas and when i went to get it titled in north dakota the state patrolman pulled up in his car to do an inspection and didnt even get out but just laughed at me. when i asked him what was going on he said my tires were ridiculous and would never pass. so i waited until i moved to montana where no one cares about anything to register my beloved Sally. they would have passed if i had flares that covered the tread (yeah, like that would EVER happen! ha ha
