Unless your planning on using the Jeep strictly on a closed track (and trailering it to and from) ya might as well forget it.

Here's what you'll end up with:

C90/S7 Defective equipment, Improper exhaust $35.00
C90/S16 Altered exhaust, Harsh & Objectionable noise $50.00
Inspection: Fail, emissions. No valid sticker will eventually lead to another $50.00 fine C90/S7A.

Oops! Scratch the last one. Wasn't thinking, YJ's were pre-OBD2 so no emission failure. It would be a straight defective equipment failure (No 60 day grace period to repair.) Technically you could be cited for no valid inspection sticker the moment you drove out of the inspection station!

technically any exhaust modification by law is 100% illegal in MA. straight pipes would be out of the question. but aftermarket exhaust laws are RARELY enforced, and easy citations to win. i fought one once with my old car and won it saying no one's pulling over harleys.

I think it would just an exhaust system modification violation. I don't know of are any MA laws governing passenger vehicles with "stacks". Trucks must maintain certain clearances for stacks in height and distance from any part of the passenger compartment. Military vehicles are exempt from all state registration & inspection laws.

According to Assachusetts law, exhaust modifications may only be made on vehicles owned by illegal aliens.
