Is it worth having a block heater in MA?

Hi All,
I know winter is coming to an end, but I was wondering if it is worth having a block heater when I buy my Jeep. It gets pretty cold at times over here.

Does it help the engine life in anyway or is it just plain luxury?
Thanks!

I put one in...dry cold starts are hard on the engine. Growing up on the farm in WI we had in all the big equipment...

Probably cheaper to do it yourself verses having in come from manufacturer.

I believe you have to pull a freeze plug to install one, which means you have to drain your coolant. They make aftermarket ones you can stick to your oil pan but that could be damaged off road
