new jeep owner

hello all. i just bought a 2000 wrangler automatuc 4 cyl with 135, 000 miles on it for $5500 and thats with a 5 year warranty on the engine and tranny. few of questions.

1. the gas mileage. i just filled up my tank and after 40 miles its almost down to 3/4 of a tank. does this sound right? i thought they were better on gas.

2. the tranny. at about 35mph, i hear like sluggish sound but after giving some gas, it goes away. should i be concerned?

3. overall. i thought it was a good buy. what do you guys think?

Welcome to the Forum and for purchasing you first Jeep

Gas Mileage is low on all Jeeps so just get used to it, but it helps to know if your rig is modded or stock

As for the rest of your Jeep I do not know much about the Auto with a 4 banger but to stay away from them. If you are concerned with it have a mechanic you trust take a look at it.

Good luck and See you on the trails

welcome! just had this discussion on here yesterday. had a guy named jerry, if your on here much you'll see em'.he says no jeep will get 16-19 mpg. wrong!i get this kinda mileage with mine, 99 w/4.0 6 cyl. 5 speed. not so much when i'm out be'n a little agressive on the throttle. but i'm not sure on the 4 banger,it might not get as good because the 4 has to work a little harder? any how you'll have a good time with your rig. 5,500 seems like a decent price, i have seen e'm going for alot more money!

Welcome to the forum. When my Jeep was stock, i would usually average 17-19mpg. I commute daily from Lowell to Boston. Reading 40 at 3/4s seems just a hair low, but the gas gage absolutely sucks. It used to say 110-115 at the half, but I could go 285-300 safely on a tank. Once the needle hits the E, you can usually get another 50 miles out of it. Since I got the lift, and didn't recalibrate the speedo, hence the odo too, I can't push it past a total of 230, which is probably more like 250-260 miles.
