Paint job advice.

I'm looking to repaint my jeep and have a classic dillema - can't justify spending $1000+ dollars but don't want to go to maaco. I'm leaning towards doing it myself in a friend's garage but the learning curve with the spray gun is kind of intimidating.

My question is this. Does anyone know a good painter in MA or RI who is willing to spray an owner prepped vehicle? I would closely follow their specifications for the prep work. Thanks a lot,

Actually, if you do all the prep work and deliver it to MAACO ready for them to shoot color. You specify what paint to use or even supply it. You can get a decent paint job.
You'll get a good feel for the paint gun doing the prep work, you might even feel confident enough to try shooting it yourself by the time you're done.

Disclaimer. I used to do body and paint work but have been out of it for more than 20 years. Things have changed a bit since then.

I recently got a quote from MAACO for my WINDSHIELD, the connecting brackets, and the piece between windshield and hood for $850!!

To repaint my whole jeep, estimated cost is $2,000.

MAACO is a no go.. what happened to their deals? where is the $500 deal to paint you car?

There is a guy in Hudson, who rents a few bays next to Jake's garage on Forest St who does autobody paint. 508-523-5676

Hi all. I know this is an older thread but I'm looking to get my Jeep painted before the rust completely destroys my body. I also would like someone to sand/wire brush the under side of the jeep and put some POR (Paint over rust) on it. I would do the underside myself but I just don't have the time.
Does anyone have any thoughts on where I could get some of this work done?

A gun, compressor and paint would be way cheaper. Paint it yourself you'll learn something and you'll bond more with your car

The deed is done.

The deed is done except for reassembly, that is.

As she sits now eagerly awaiting reassembly:

Between taking off stubborn fender flares, rounding out torx bolts and excavating windshield hinge backing nuts from mountains of seam sealer it took me a few days longer than expected. I'm 5 days into the project now and I could have (and sort of wish I had) spent another day perfecting every little rock chip and a few grinder marks that are deeper than I thought.

Any body experts know anything about using glazing putty over synthetic enamel (John Deere blitz black)? Do I have to sand back to the factory paint, bare metal or is it safe to use on top of scuffed alkyed enamel?
