A spare for an hour?

Hi everyone,

I didn't even know there was a RI forum.. lol So my Jeep ius mostly stock and Ihave some big fat 31 mud tires.. Jeep runs great pulls like crazy, but she is a dog in the 5th on the highway, even if I just hit a 1% grade.... The Jeep will even slow down going down a hill at a moderate speed in 5th.. now I really think this is my tires and I have a gearing issue.. everyone seems to say NO WAY, not with 31's.. but I just don't believe it..

Does anyone have some spares that I could put on my back wheels just to test out my theory? I do have the spare on the back so all I need is one, but a matching set would be ideal? Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks everyone..

It's a 97

Sport... I have 0 idea what is in there.. but I assume it is stock...so I am just trying to figure out if the gearing is the issue...

I mean.. I went down hill once in 5th gear (a big hill)
and it still slowed down considerably.. I come from the world of Turbo's.. but I do think this is a bit ridiculous...

Break out a small brass brush, crawl under the Jeep and clean off the diff. tag bolted to the diff. cover @ the 9 O'Clock position. If it's still there your gear ratio will be stamped on it.

Have you checked to see if you have a caliper sticking? That would cause the pulling and would also add drag on the engine. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion though...

And pull in every other gear is great...just 5th on the highway.. or with any incline...
