Porter Road, Ellington, CT

Told there might be a trail on or near this road. Anyone know? Someone posted in the tech forum, which got me interested, cause its not far from me, but the thread kinda died cause, well, it's in the tech threads. Hoping maybe someone here knows it and can let us know what to expect. Thanks!

Porter road is an unimproved road in Ellington that leads to the soapstone mountain fire roads. Nice ride, I can do most of it in a stock 08 Rubicon. I think some of us are heading there today.

We had a good time, 2 hours on the trails. A lot of rocks and a little mud.

Just found out the wife is working most of the day Sunday, and asked my 13 y/o daughter if she wanted to finally get the Jeep off road. Big smile, lol.
I just wanna make sure I'll be ok there with a stock '06 LJ Rubi on stock 31's. Supposed to be nothing but sun from now till then, so no additional water/mud. And if any wants to meetup, I'm more than open to it.

Thats what I meant, was Monday. 40% of rain at this point, but we all know how weather changes. So yes, I'm up for MONDAY. Wife was yapping in my ear while I was trying to concentrate on Jeep stuff. At least my kids get it!

Anyone know the laws regarding fire roads. Are we allowed to be out there? Can't find any info on unimproved roads or fire roads in CT.

I'd love to come play, can't deal with any legal troubles.

I believe (though I could be wrong) if it is marked as a road (albeit gravel, soil or paved) on a DEP trail map then it is a legal thoroughfare for registered vehicles. That being said, if there's any type of signage (whether you see it or not) indicating no trespassing, no vehicular traffic, road closed, etc. then it is clearly not legal to wheel on. There's also the issue of knowing for sure that the trail you're on is in fact the "road" marked on the map. Some of the DEP maps are not exactly current. Though chances are, if you have a DEP trail map with you, make a reasonable effort to stick to the marked "roads" and not tear around like an A**hole you'll be fine. Most cops are pretty reasonable and if you are stopped (somewhere you shouldn't be) and are polite and can show you were making an effort to stay on marked "roads" it's likely they will send you on your way and politely tell you not to return.

Nope. It'll suck, cause that means putting the soft top back on. But I'm still going. Gotta go to Cabelas anyway!

Porter rd is off the map bottom left. I imagine it goes into Shenipsit forest.
