Yeah, sucks. I couldn't make it this time either. Hopefully I can meet with you guys may fifth. I did drive along route 202 in Ramapo today off of 17 and saw a nice looking trail along a river it looked like though. I'm also nervous about driving down to Wharton and then coming home after wheeling. I just feel my jeep will break down. I don't know why I just do. So I hope to meet you guys next weekend.

I enter at the Ranger Station off of 206, right before Atsion Lake Rec Area. Thats the only way that I know right now.
I really don't know my way around the trails that well, I sort of just explore and see where I wind up.
That being said, I still had a great time, I hooked up with a couple of other guys, who at least knew their way around the trails.

I started on the Basto Rd, Hammonton side and ended up on the 206 side. I read you might be out there, I tried to send you a pm but no cell coverage. I passed by a few groups in my travels as well.

I'm going to try to do Wharton again this weekend. Not sure if Sat or Sun. I'd like to meet with someone who knows their way around.

I'm not sure, but I think I remember reading on JKO you can go to the ranger station and they have trail maps.

I inquired last year about trail maps and was told they do not have them. There were two young girls (early 20's late teens) behind the counter so I'm don't really know if they knew what they were talking about but I never asked again.

A slight change in plans!!! We are going to stay up north on Sunday 5/6 and go over to Stagg Hill to wheel for a bit! We are going to meet at the Dunkin Doughnuts/ Jersey Mikes at 10 am then wheel till the afternoon. My one friend went last weekend and said it was great and a lot closer then spending 2hrs each way! The invitation still stands for whoever wants to go and maybe a little easier for everyone that wants to wheel for a little bit! He drove by a couple of rangers giving a guy on a dirt bike a hard time but no body busted him in his Jeep. Not saying that cant happen though!!! Should be a great time!!!

You can wheel in Wharton with no problems from the law. Stag Hill is kind of iffy....

From what I have heard you can get a fire roads permit.

I don't know about the official laws, but there are no signs, and it is pretty popular with Jeeps, quads and dirt bikes. It is also apparently where stolen cars are dumped.

If you look on google maps around stagg hill area you can see that some of those roads have names

Yeah they do, I think the pipeline has a road name, but based on the above comment on fire roads permit, maybe its considered a fire road and you need the permit. I say just go for it. Its such a popular area, and there are no gates or signs or anything to deter people, that I would think its not a problem at all.

I went on Sunday....its extremely rocky out there and kind of iffy if your not lifted at all...it was a good time...but yea no signs any where saying no trespassing and unless the cops are driving in offroad vehicles there's no way for them to see you or even really get to you...plus we saw a lot of other trucks out there...so I'd say go for it....I don't think ill be going back though

I go with a guy who has a bone stock JK, and he makes it everywhere we do. The parts that he couldn't go through, he was able to go around. So stockers are fine, just can't go out of their way to make it hard like more lifted rigs can.

Yeah its more of a mental thing, getting used to what your Jeep can handle, which is generally a whole lot more than you expect.
