Question Looking for a DC-area/Maryland Dealership

I plan on ordering a 2012 Wrangler soon, but I haven't contacted or identified a local dealership yet.

Has anyone ordered one and had a positive (negative) experience?

From the other Forums, folks talk about negotiating a 2% under Invoice price (and/or signing-up with TreadLightly.org for another 1%)?

Thanks in advance for any recommendation(s)!

I'm on the market for a new dealer after being less than happy with Ourisman in Clarksville, MD. I couldn't recommend them for anything at this point.

Criswell in Gaithersburg is good but for selection I went to Fairish in Northern VA. Lots of stock.

Decent Price?

Well, I spoke with Ourisman Jeep in Clarksville, MD today and they'll do 1% under Invoice with an additional 1% for an Affiliate Rewards number (via my TreadLightly membership) on a factory-order (customized) Wrangler.

Any thoughts?

Should I push for 2% (plus the additional 1% for AR TL) for a total of 3% under Invoice - or should I be very happy with 2% on a 2012?

I really like the idea of selecting the options I want and am willing to wait for the 8+ week build time.

Specifically, I'm looking at either a Sport-"S" or Rubicon with a soft-top, half metal doors (seemed to be hard to find), optional side airbags, auto transmission, tow group, and a few other minor add-on options (i.e., sat radio, side steps, diff lock, deep tint windows, etc).

I had previously ordered from this dealership and had a world of problems. When we ordered we specified 3.73 gears and they insisted it was correct. When we pushed them on the issue because we knew the gears were wrong they guaranteed the gears would be right. The gears were dead wrong just like we knew they would be when the Jeep arrived. It took them 15 days and several calls to Chrysler to even get them to honestly look into the issue. Through no fault of theirs when the Jeep arrived it was damaged enough that it had to be turned over to Chrysler, which at that point made it a used vehicle in our eyes. The only thing they were willing to do to remedy our month of wasted time, was order another Jeep. It was at that point we decided to take our business elsewhere.

If you go with them, go in knowing EXACTLY how to order EXACTLY how you want your Jeep. Make sure that EVERY option is listed on that POC document where you can see it, because what's on there is what you are getting. PERIOD. I live 1 mile from them and you couldn't pay me to deal with them again. They flat out told me that I knew more about the 2012's than they did.

Criswell was extremely convenient to me, but both Farrish and Koons had them beat hands down on pricing. I eventually went with koons and the process was nice and painless.

I ended up ordering from Criswell last night. Wasn't my first choice but after my experience with Ourisman in Clarksville, I was particular in what I was looking for. Eddie went above and beyond in answering my questions and doing everything he could to make the process easy. I will admit to being ready to walk out when they tried to charge me $75 for using the TL program! I was like no one else has done this and if you're doing this I'm done. After some running back and forth the 'other' guy that said we had to pay came back and said that they were going to waive it. We proceeded with Eddie and so far, so good!

Wow - thank you.

Based on your comments, I think I'll hold-off a few days on placing an order at Ourisman until I contact both Koon's (at Tyson Corner) and possibly Farrish of Fairfax. Heck, I live in Annapolis anyway (which is Adams Jeep territory).

After looking at both the Farrish and Koon's Jeep inventories on their websites, Farrish does have a black-in-color Wrangler S hardtop that has all of the options I want (to include the side airbags) which would work - BUT that brings me to another question for comment and discussion.

I've always wanted a soft-top with the Half Metal doors, but I have concerns about the soft-top (e.g., the plastic windows "yellowing", the leakiness of the top, the plastic window door inserts, etc).

So, does anyone have any opinions, experience, comments, or suggestions regarding soft-tops versus the hard tops? And, maybe the half metal doors versus the full frame ones?

From what I've read, Maryland requires at least one driver's side rearview mirror and if I remove the full frame doors, I'll need to attach a small mirror to be compliant. But from the various photos on the Jeep website, the side view mirrors on the half metal doors are attached at a lower point, so I can remove the plastic window inserts and I've still got side view mirrors.

Thanks in advance for any info!

(You all are great - and we love living in Maryland!)

I ordered dual tops. Being that this is my first Jeep and I have no real experience but my thought process is this. I wanted the hardtop for the winter months for heat, to protect my soft top against snow load, freezing/thawing and the salt/brine solutions they put down on the roads. From what I've read if treated properly and taken care of the soft top and windows will last a long time. I've purchased 303 Protectant for treating
the soft top. I know Bestop makes a soft top care kit. I think that the yellowing comes more from improper care than anything else.

They sell mirror relocation kits that allow you to move the mirror, that move the mirror forward Rugged Ridge 11025.04 - Rugged Ridge Mirror Relocation Bracket in Black for 07-11 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec
Silly as this might sound my thought about half doors, was I would love to have them or no doors in the summer time, however, in the winter having to unzip my window to go to the ATM or drive-thru seemed like pain to me. I know loads of people do it and it's trivial but it was something I thought about.

I also got the dual top with my Jeep, for the same reasoning as Ang. But then I also got a Bikini top and duster cover from bestop because I removed my back seat and have only the bikini on.

I thought about getting half doors but then decided against it. So far this summer I have been running doorless all summer and I am loving it. I have found that unless the rain is coming down at a slant water does not get into my jeep when it is parked and while driving it is a nice mist to the face
I actually bought the Rugged Ridge relocation kit and have no complaints with it. But if you do have your doors on, expect to not see anything from your right side mirror.

hey guys, look on line at Koons Jeep in Tysons Corner. I was going to order a 2012 RUBI and using the 2012 info in the JK forum, it came out to about $34000 invoice. They offered me this in my e-mail back from them when i inquired about one on the online inventory that had all i wanted to order except matching fenders and remote start.

MSRP $36,070

Your price is only $33,171 plus tax, tags and fees (includes all incentives)

This vehicle is available! Please call me to confirm your appointment.

Thanks!

It might not be the best deal ever but it worked for me. I traded my 2007 Sahara in and we split the difference on what i wanted for trade

I live in Calvert County and my local Jeep Dealer used to be Ralphs Dodge....btw, loved those guys, but they sold and are now Prince Frederick Jeep Dodge, Chrylser, Ford and whatever other brand you might think of....needless to say they don't offer much in the way of discounts. Great salespersons to talk to while you get your vehicle serviced (good service department) but don't seem willing to cut you a deal. Much like Adams Jeep in Annapolis. I buught a 2011 Liberty for my wife form Waldorf Jeep. Once again from on-line inventory. They were offering over $4000 in incentives and had the inventory.
Give Koons a try. The guy i used was internet sales and i didn't try and haggle more over the price quoted but we did have to go to the well once or twice to get them to bump up the trade in.

here is Jeffs e-mail at Koons.
jeff.hever@koonsauto.com [mailto:jeff.hever@koonsauto.com] can't hurt to give them a try. Plus they had in-stock inventory. A week ago, they had a bunch of Rubi's some Saharas and a bunch of 2011's.

Hope this helps....good luck.

Saw you guys talking about soft tops....if someone needs a top, i have a new one (still in the box) from my 2007 Sahara. I don't need it, came with my Sahara. My Rubi just had the hard top. So, just saying can give you a sweet deal. Pretty sure it will fit 2007 through 2012s.

Well, the best price I've been quoted (so far) is from Heritage Jeep in Baltimore. They'll let me place a factory order for $750 under Invoice.

So, that may be where I'm headed this weekend...

They were not incorrect, whenever you use a Chrysler employee purchase program code, you get the FFP price on the invoice plus a $75 admin fee.

Well of the several dealers that I've gotten to that point with, they were the only ones to add the $75 to the POC. Now perhaps others would have added that fee in somewhere else and I'd would have been none the wiser, but it was the first I'd seen of it or heard of it at all.

Ang, I had a great experience with Criswell Service too. Lester the Jeep service manager did a great job for me when I hydrolocked my engine. Negotiated everything with my insurance company and ended up getting me a brand new engine for just a few bucks from my pocket. Only reason I bought at Fairish was because they had a COD Black Ops on the lot and wouldn't trade it anywhere.

Thanks, that's good to know! They aren't the most convenient to me it's a serious shame that things didn't work out with Ourisman for me they are a mile away. Wonder if their service department is better than sales

I know if something goes awry with this one, I'm going to Pat Fields in Chicago!

One thing I forgot to mention as well guys, we have a $500 price match guarantee. we'll beat anyone's deal by up to $500 on a comparable unit. even if you've already placed your order, as long as you haven't signed a buyer's order, I can still help you, so please email me with questions!

Here were my thoughts on the full / half door deal - it sure is nice to have roll down windows when you're a smoker (as I am), or at a drive through, or paying for parking, etc...and they seemed a little quieter than the half door ones I test drove (don't know if this is just the ones I tested, or a common theme, but that's what I noticed). Also, they're really not heavy, so taking them off is no real problem - mine were off almost all last week at the beach. I even drunkenly got them back on when it started raining late one night without a problem (I'm sure it was amusing to watch, but it all worked out)! Good luck with the purchase!

one thing about being a smoker. i was driving with a smoker once in an 07 JK that had half doors. he took both his zippers and zipped them to a position where he had a 1" slot in the zipper right next to his left hand as it sat on the steering wheel. holding the cigarette in his left hand while driving, the window acted like a vacuum and sucked the smoke right out of the car. i was sitting right next to him, and i swear that if i had my eyes closed, i would never have believed you if you told me he lit a cigarette. IMO, half doors are better than full-framed doors for smoking in your car.

Yeah, that's another thing I'd worry about...I get pretty spacey every now and then ...also pretty sure I do not possess the skill to ash out that small of an opening reliably. I don't know...guess I just like having the wind-up windows. Plus I want to get a hard top for winter eventually.

If you are looking for a good dealer in Maryland. Look up Century Jeep in Mt. Airy. It is a little off of the beaten path, but well worth the effort.

My deal has been very smooth including a trade, financing, and incentives.

Ask for Johnny (sales manager) and tell him that Ed sent you.

Support the good dealers!!!
