Can somebody give me an idea of what actually goes on? Is it just a drive along the beach or more? I just might sign up of gas prices are skyrocketed even more!

I'm guessing it's just a drive on the beach, if you're referring to the quote. As for the weekend, the local club is allowing participants to wheel in their place for free. Check out the web site for more details.

Cool, I am definitely looking forward to this. I turn 18 on the 26...would be quite the birthday gift if my family let me make the 6 hour tip to Maryland

I'm in OC right know and I've seen a few Jeeps driving doorless already. I've been here for car shows in the past and I can say that the OCPD like to stop people to set an example and keep others in line. Some won't mess with doorless Jeeps...but there will be one or two that will based on the technicality.

It's like stopping someone for having no license plate light...automatic probable cause.

I just booked the Econolodge on 145th .... which is usually where I stay when I go to OCM. Can't Wait !

Cool thing is that the place has covered parking, in case it rains.
and I have relatives that live close by also.

I was there last weekend for the classic car show. I talked to one of the cops that said he'd pull over anyone with the doors off and asked what country I thought I lived in where I could ride around without doors on a vehicle.

Then we had 6 bike cops giving one guy a ticket for revving his car. My friend was recording it and they came over and told him that he couldn't be recording them, so I filmed the rest of it. That's BS right there and even if they tried to invoke any BS wire tapping law, it's been thrown out of court so many times it's not funny. They were just a bunch of children on a power trip.

I have a 3-1/2 hour drive to get there, so I am coming with my doors, but I planned on taking them off and leaving them in the hotel room.

I don't really understand why they think no doors is dangerous.
It's not any worse than driving in a convertable (no roll bar) or on a motorcycle.

If I find soft lower doors by then, i will be bringing them down as well.

Beach crawl

Talked with "Sack" from the weekend organizers. They are dragging out the announcement for the beach crawl registration because they want to get people to sign up for the weekend with hopes of getting into the beach crawl. If they announce it now, and it fills up quickly (a likely probability), people might not come down.

I can understand their thinking. It's business.

Watch their web page if you're that interested in this event. Sack said he would contact me when he is going to make the announcemnt.

Some friends and I are booking a house for the week prior trough the weekend. I'll leave the parade spot to the hardcore guys an just enjoy the atmosphere. My doors will be off and will stay off. I tend to think every verbal confrontation is a Shakespeare scene and have trouble not condescendingly battering people with my tongue. I may get a ticket but the stop and subsequent appeal in court will be entertaining at least

Also, had anyone considered calling the department and addressing this problem?

I hope this isn't a real issue with the cops as I drove topless & doorless in OC with DE tags and never had an issue and I'm doing the same in KS & TX. I've got mirrors that look stock (not the harley mirrors) and I make sure everyone is buckled and keeping their appendages inside the vehicle. I believe this and driving peacefully (not that others are not) keeps the law off my back. If I was concerned about it, I'd find a cop and ask them if they have any concerns. I've done this with other issues (cycles, off-roading, guns, bandit signs, appropriation of unattended lumber for hurricane preparedness) and had all kinds of responses from thanks & handshakes to rolling up the window & driving away.

Best of luck Jeepers, wish I could be there!

I received a ticket for not having doors on last summer. It's an OC law, not county nor state.

MD law states that you only need one mirror on the car unless you're registered in the state of MD and I don't know if it says anything about doors or not.

Wow, that sucks - do you have the ticket still? I'd redact, scan & post on here so we can figure out what laws need changing. Might have to be folks that actually live in OC, MD, but I'd sure bring to the attention of the Chamber of Commerce folks as they'd have some stroke with the lawmakers there in town.

Hub, not to push on you to take this on of course, but I'm sure there are plenty of folks on here that'll call or email the folks that need the persuading. I sure will, I pester folks for a living.

I couldn't find anything related to doors on a private vehicle (taxis must have 4 doors)

My understanding of the OC law is that these cops are taking it out of context. They supposedly have a law that says you must have working door handles. This was because the car show guys were welding doors shut and they felt it was a hazard. These idiot cops are using the same law since if you have no doors you have no handles. Someone should show them the sticker on the soft top header that says the doors are for protection from the elements only.

I guess they never get a fiberglass tub dune buggy there ? They don't have an option for doors at all.

I would never try. Trying to explaining something to an idiot makes you a bigger idiot. Expalining it to a Judge would be a different matter however.

I think the problem arises more when there is an event in town... all the "rent a cops" that they hire are all gung ho on stopping you for the least little things. At least this has been my experience when I was there for other car shows in the past.
