'00 Wrangler—Rebuild or Replace Trans? —HELP!

Hi all,

Our 2000 Wrangler, 2.5 Auto, got word from mechanic the transmission is shot! He doesn't rebuild but will replace with rebuilt or new. ————YIKES

Ok, do I go to a franchise like LeeMyles, independent, or what??? Live in Berks county PA.

Any and ideas and advice welcomed and appreciated..

All the best.

I got a great tranny from Engine and Transmission World online, it was for my PT Cruiser, but was much cheaper than any option I found locally. They shipped to my door.

Mine bit the dust in April and I found this place, I got one with 39,000 miles and he gave me a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty for $1200 shipped, and I did the swap myself.

First off, what's the thing doing? Secondly, when was the last time the filter was changed? Has it been slipping? Does it get worse or not want to move when it heats up? When did the problems start, and how did it act when they did?

Also, if it's not far from your house, and not needed to drive immediately, I'd tow it home before I made any snap decisions. Before you panic, it could just need a filter and fluid change. They get clogged sometimes and the thing won't even move. Keep checking and posting.
