Pa state inspection

Sup guys I'm trying to get my wrangler inspected but am worried. Does anybody thing I need fender flares, my tires stick out like 3 inches and also my horn isn't on the steering wheel it's a bush buton electronic thing that makes other noises like a police car or fire truck any way if anyone knows the pa state inspection laws I'd love to hear them.

By law your tires should be covered. I'm in philly and the law isn't enforced as hard . (gotta love high murder rates) One shop let me go another told me I needed flares. Tell the mechanic where the horn is on your rig . If I remember right you just need to be able to hear it from a certain distance (500 ft I believe). Good luck!

They need to be covered, I've seen trooper pull over TJ's with 30" tires from the factory because they stick out 1". I carry my original invoice to prove they are factory size and then they can't ticket you. If you poke around on www.bmja.org you will find the correct cites from the inspection AND the motorvehicle codes, both specify different standards, ain't pa motor laws great.

boy i sure do miss PA!

if i remember...i think you were allowed something like a 1/2"-3/4" or so, of tire not covered. not sure though....never really worried about it. my pop used to hook me up with a sticker.

Are you located in Pike County (north of Mt.Pocono)?

You may not need emissions equipment, just safety. You can check PA DMV requirements on-line by county. I live in Monroe county and we do not have smog testing (yet).

Anyone know the reason for the law of the tires not sticking out beyond the flares?
Because last time I checked my side mirrors stick way out beyond the flares.
Just curious.

I am not quite sure, but I believe the state of Pa is worried about things being thrown off of tires. I have heard Utah is strict on mudflaps for this reason also.

Just lookin through the local forums and damn i feel for you guys. The cops in Arizona dont care if your tires stick out 10" past your fenders. i see tons of jeeps on 35s w/ no flares. Sorry for rubing it in, just thought i would add nothing important to this thread

It's OK...they make up for it with generous gun laws.

You are definitely going to need fender flares and the horn thing is definitely a problem too. Ever heard of a lick & stick inspection station? I'm sure for the right price you can get it to pass though, if you catch my drift.
