Anyone with thoughts on half doors?

Hi there,

Planning on my fourth Wrangler sometime early next year. I've had 2 with soft tops, and they did just fine in the Upstate, NY winters. I REALLY love the look of the half doors, though. It seems it is a bit easier to just order them from the factory, and then get the full doors later if you really need/want them. I don't see too many with half doors around these parts (certainly not at dealerships).

Anyone in the frozen North running half doors year-round? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!

I live in PA and have only ever had half doors on my jeeps since the early 90s. Granted that's the only doors I have had but I never thought they were a problem. Heat kicks in these small compartments. The only issue I can remember is ice sticking to the plastic window. But you warm it up for a few minutes and it melts away. As far as getting full doors later the only problem is you'll have to get manual which I find are less available. Unless you want to go through a lengthy expensive (I have heard) retrofit. But again I am pro half doors and have only and will only ever have them. I am currently trading in my 2 door for a 4 door half door.

A little background.....first Jeep full hard doors '94 YJ (sold)...second Jeep '04 TJ Sport half doors (still have it)...3rd Jeep '12 JK Sport full hard (wife's Jeep) still have it (until she decided to much trouble lifting the Grandbaby into the back now my DD)..... enter the '14 JKU Sahara with full hard doors.

While I like the Half's on my '04 TJ Sport..... the JKs have always had the fulls and I am "used to them"....IDK that I would buy a new JK with halfs...but with the '04 IDK that I would ever want full...maybe it is what you are used to...but I do know that I like each of the Jeeps for different reasons...and to me they are not the same and not for the same "purpose"........might want to weigh that into the decision...how will you use your JEEP?????

Thanks, jp and bilash for your responses! I hadn't thought about the manual doors.

This would be a DD for me, not likely to see heavy off-roading (the occasional trail, but nothing too daunting). I don't do drive-throughs, and I have an EZpass for tolls, so I don't have a need to unroll the windows (they'd either be down all the way or not). No kids here (2 black labs), either.

Guess I still have some time to decide.

They are only half the size of full doors
I always wanted hard half doors even thought I have soft doors that become half doors. So I bought a set.
They my jeep look gay and only used them less then 5 times. They kind of suck. Its not like you can take them off and throw them in the back like soft doors. I traded them even for a good set of full doors.
Im doorless and topless from March and still am today. Full soft top and full hard doors keep me warm
