If the roads are clear Fri I'm in, if not I have to take my other half to a job interview in the afternoon. Sundays out for me, I'm at work all day. Keep me posted!

Happy New years everyone!

Hiked Mt Beacon today to start the new year off on a good foot.. Got to the old hotel platform and a sweet blue jeep came rolling in with some guys on atv/utv's.. Ive hiked that fire trail by the reservoir and after the radio towers it gets rocky/bumpy pretty quick! that must make for a rough ride

I had an interesting day.. and I wish I had pictures.

I had spent the day at my cabin and decided to try the jeep on the trails in the snow and frozen ground. Well one entry route has a slightly unlevel hill ... well needless to say.. I started to slide... and kept on sliding lol Ended up sideways in the drainage ditch and a stack of logs..

My buddy was up, so he grabbed an atv and a tow strap.. Through some interesting maneuvering and pulling we were able to get the jeep pulled sideways facing up hill. Some vroom vroom and 4low with lockers and alot of wheel spinning and the jeep was back out.

So the moral of the story is.. I need to install my new bumper and winch and get it done before going out again haha. Luckily I was only stuck 200 yards from the cabin.

And maybe also.. I should tread more lightly on frozen snow/ice/ground =)

If its really cold you will find the snow to provide quite a bit of traction but when it gets warmer like today it becomes very slippery. Today was a tough day for wheelin. Off camber hills are as tough as it gets in these conditions and it doesn't take much of an incline/decline to make you a "passenger". Was out playin with mine today too, to those of you who know my field where we meet up the hill was almost impassable and it's not really much of a hill. Made the same spot in 2 wheel a few days ago.

Anyone have any advice on how to remove a stripped torx bolt? I made one turn and the wrench slipped...it is barely stripped
I was hoping this was a quick and easy removal...I just bought kc long range lights and wanted to install them myself

The torx bolt by the windshield?
I see you said it's barely stripped but of you try long enough it could only get worse. Try getting some wd40 in there and applying lots of pressure or heating up old bolt works sometimes too. If not you would have to go to a tool store, I think auto zone even has these bits meant to pull out stripped bolts like that.

I also saw somewhere searching just now to try a wide rubber and inbetween the driver and the bolt to help get some grip

You could try cutting notches into the bolt head on opposite sides. Then if you have a wide enough flat head screwdriver, use that. Or you just need to break it loose really so you can tap in the notch with a screwdriver and hammer. If it's stripped you should be getting a new bolt anyways so it doesn't matter if you mess this one up

I don't think heat will work here--you need to heat up the nut, not the bolt. It makes the metal expand a hair and loosen things up, so if you heat the bolt you're going to lock it up worse.

I'm not sure the actual name of the tool, but there's something that I can only really describe as a hammer screwdriver. You put whatever tip you need in the end, and strike it with a hammer. It drives the bit into the bolt and turns at the same time to prevent the bit from skipping out. I have one somewhere, I think at my parents house. If it's not urgent I can probably drop by and dig it out if you want to give it a shot.

Found a picture of what I'm talking about:

Just finished my bumper install. Took a while, Since I got this back before christmas but the kit did not have the M3 nuts to secure the foglights.

Finally got the nuts yesterday the 11th, so you can understand a bit of frustration with Rugged Ridge but *shrug* its not the end of the world.

my only beef with the install is the positive cable could use an extra 12 inches to make routing the wire an option instead of right over the air box directly to the battery terminal.

Tested the winch out and pulled my jeep across the driveway and did a full un-spool and re-spool.

All in all im quite pleased and I will hopefully never need it, but as you know its better to have and never need.. then to need and not have.

I've got an email in to quadratec, I looked around and they offer a longer positive cable for the 9500I winch for better routing for the 2012+ models. Hopefully they will hook me up and I can route the cable a whole lot better, go down to the bumper, and under the grill then back up maybe under the airbox and be all set.

Did you get your bolt out? I had the same issue on my TJ years ago. They have these things called EZ Outs you can get at home depot. you basically drill into the screwhead and counter screw in the tool and then it pulls out the stuck screw... it worked for me. Let us know how it turned out.

I'll be at my place trying to put my busted evap canister back together. Thought I had it licked but I this week the CEL as well as "gascap" lights came on. Was gonna wheel my trails today but gotta see if can straighten this out first. Your welcome to stop by but there wont be a group here or anything like that.
