Not fair your escaping NY taxes! The evil empire will find a way to tax you...

Good luck with the move. I too, hope to escape NY one day.

No problem the taxes are nutz though. To be honest if the taxes weren't so crazy I would love to stay, this piece of property is fantastic.

You should see what the taxes are in this area for a 75'X100' lot. It's absolutely ridiculous!

I'll play, how bad? Have family from your area and I know there's were pretty bad even years ago.

Mine runs about 16k a year for the house and property. The property is only about 2k of that because it is a separate undeveloped lot(well worth it too if you ask me). My mother in law lives about 5 miles away in an 1800sqft bilevel on .2 of an acre and pays about 10k/yr. My taxes are about 30% more than my mortgage, that should not be legal.

I say a bunch of us chip in and buy the land. We can turn the tunnel into a big cement igloo for MikD to live in free of charge!!!!

If you really want places to go look into joining a landlease group. A few months ago I had a fellow offroader ask if I wanted to join thiers, I believe they had 5000acres that you could wheel, camp, hunt, etc for $200yr. The catch was it was about 6hrs west.
Still thinking it might be worth it though.

In Bergen County, NJ, my mom lives in a nice house 3000+ sq ft (don't know the exact footage) on at 75'X100' lot and she's paying $13k/yr on taxes. Thank God the house is paid off because she's retired and on a fixed income. It's crazy.

Guess I should move to the Carolinas. Lol

it will actually be a longer drive to RC then I have now. 3.5 hours with the trailer vs 4ish depending on where we settle out there. Also the jeep wont be making the trip until we have a house. doubt we're going to rent a place that has room for truck trailer and 2 jeeps. But there is a lot more wheeling out there between private land in PA and Ohio and legal places to ride in ohio. Can't get here soon enough

Anyone up for starting a land lease group for upstate NY? For 200 bucks a year, I'll even supply the beer.

Let's make it 500/year and use the extra money to build a nice log cabin bar and bathroom on the land. I'm not a big fan of crapping in the woods.

Hope I'm not out of place jumping in on your conversation but I'd be interested in going in on the land lease or joining in for ride sometime if you'd let me. I'm in Albany and pretty new to this site and Jeeps in general. It seems like you guys are the only ones really doing anything here in NY as group here. I've been trying to find anyone around here to ride with but there doesn't seem to be a lot of upstate people here. So if you got room for 1 more I'm in... Thanks!

Mike,

I would've been there, but I was in Wharton, NJ. Was another good group, but mostly flat with a lot of water and mud holes. It was a good day. Take a trip down with us one day!
