Hey Bush, I had a great time on the ride. It was a pleasure helping you out in a pinch. One day I would love to join the Jeep owners and be more than just a passenger!! Joel

MikD i'd be up for a ride to PA for some fun. I know there are some trails around the Pocono area too.

Glad to have ya along! We all had a good time. Many more trails to explore up there! Me and the real BushWrangler are going to hike some of those trails and scout them out for the next time.

Looks like we to pick two dates, one for a 101 at my place and another for either Rausch Creek, Trevorton, or anyplace else in PA that someone knows of. Mike (sadass) has an inside line on some nice areas in PA as well. Time for a plan...

The 101 is easy, most Saturday's work for me at my place so it just depends on who wants to show up and what date works for them.

So if were talking 101, this means the basics;

High range vs low range
Tire pressure
Sway bars and articulation
Ground clearance
Breakover, attack, and departure angles
Tire placement and "picking a line"
Ascent and descent of steep grades
Using the clutch and idle crawling
Speed and momentum

Just a few off of the top of my head, I'll try to come up with a game plan. Reading and talking about this stuff is one thing, getting your jeep out on the trail and actually experiencing it is the real way to do it.

I am down with the 101. I have been In the wheeling environment close to my entire life. I Started out with My Parents belonging to 4x4clubs and taking me out In the Mojave Desert of Southern California back in the Late 70's. and no that's not a typo. I am just getting old.
I can spend countless hours passing on information that I have picked up over the years. In fact, doing just that over a couple of beers is One of my favorite things to do! I say we have a 101 over Mikes, Plus I am itching to extend some of the New trails there. Maybe even turn it into a Pitch a tent and burn some wood type of event. Then towards the end of the Month we head out to PA for a trip. And I know Just the spot.

On a side note, any of you guys know of a "lift friendly" Jeep dealership, Rock Krawler recommends getting an alignment after the lift is installed and says a Jeep dealer should do it so they can plug it into a computer and check the steering wheel alignment. I have it centered I think but they say its touchy to do by eye. I bought it from Suresky, not sure yet if they are receptive to lifted Jeeps

Kyle had very good luck with Alignment World in Middletown. They adjusted the control arms, track, bars, centered wheel and aligned it complete with a computer printout of where all four wheels are set for a decent price. The guy's at the jeep dealer in Beacon are also wheelers if you want to go the dealer route.

Thanks for the info MikD, so it doesn't have to be a dealer to "plug it in"? Good to know. I set everything to RKs specs so Im hoping its close

Duke, I think your talking about RocsTrails. Location is Wurtsboro, they are having some last minute legal issues is the rumor. We are all hoping they open soon.

Monk, I don't know if they have the software but Kyle has the RK lift as well and the specs just didn't work on his 12. These guy's got it working, they were recommended by Bedrock Auto in Maybrook who are also wheelers (father and son were at the meetup at my place in a silver grand cherokee, they made the nice sliding rally turn on the video).

Sadass, exactly you get it. While some don't want you around if you aren't hard core enough I believe the exact opposite approach is what the sport needs. The more people that get to experience "wheelin" the stronger the offroad community becomes. The long term battle to wheel legally in the northeast will be won by numbers at the voting booth...

Well said! The guys that don't want to be bothered with Newbies forget that they were once newbies too. Not only that, the more people hooked on this stuff, the more people that will make a difference at the voting booth.

Agreed. I hope not this weekend. I have to visit the family this week in the flatland known as Long Island.
