Hey guys. I posted a few months ago when I just got my TJ. Just wanted to chime in again.

First, welcome Dr. Evil! Are you the same one on NYFirearms forum? I think I've seen you around in your jeep (if that's yours in your avatar). I live in Highland, too. I drive the red TJ + hard top.

Were you all up on Beacon Mountain a few weeks ago? I was walking the dog up the mountain, and a bunch of jeeps were at the reservoir. Wasn't sure if it was a meetup I missed! Haha.

The weather's been awesome the last few days, and it's been killing me that I haven't gotten the hard top off yet. I'm trying to get ready for Spring. The problem is my garage is too small, and I live in one of those homeowner developments where they wouldn't be too happy with a semi-permanent structure like a swingset or a hoist on a tree.

I saw one of these at Harbor Freight. Do you think this would work with a set of ropes or tie downs to remove the top? SHOP CRANE, 2 TON FOLDABLE . I'm not lifted, so it should be tall enough where I would be able to lift it a little and drive away.

At least I could shrink that down and store it in the garage. I'd have to replace the top every night though to avoid a fine...

Hey guys I posted a thread in the ny forum this morning. Wondering if anybody would like to have a meetup in the lower Hudson valley (lohud) this fall if you want we could brainstorm ideas in that thread I posted. I'll link to it as soon as I'm out of class.

Our last meetup was about 35 rigs with maybe 20 going on a trail run afterward. Large groups tend to be "like herding cats", fun in a parking lot but too many personality's to keep track of on the trail. We used a Walmart parking lot as it was huge and very easy to find. Should be a good number of rigs around your area, hard part is getting ahold of them.

I set up the last meet up @ Sonics in Newburgh but we were too big of a group so we parked @ walmart
Showing my age but can you still park in the circle at the kensico dam? That would be a cool place. Trying to think a a good place between here and there.
Bear Mt park is big enough but it gets jambed up during the fall.
Let me know if i can help. Count me in
Made a few changes yesterday

Looks good James, should fit down even tighter trails now and less to damage when it lays on it's side not that that would ever happen...

Well I managed to get myself stuck. I had spent the day chainsawing my ATV trails wider and came through this field.. well apparently it used to be a swamp/beaver dammed up and is nothing but pure muck. Sure my ATV gets through just fine and never breaks a sweat well the jeep is a bit heavier and sunk haha.

First I tried the smaller kubota and a come alone on the tree.. didnt budge.

Eventually I had to go get the kubota front end loader to get myself pulled out.. really really glad I had the 150 feet of chain i needed to get to the loader from solid land.

Also cleared more trails out to a rock shore on my property where I do my fly fishing.

Its about an hour away, i've got property in the catskills up off Rt 28

@mike, I had used 2 snatch blocks with the tree's to give it some more pull, but I feared the rope was gonna snap when we tightened it up and it didnt budge so I went for the front end loader and chains. All in all ive decided to avoid that area until I get a winch so at least i can self recover and not make a huge deal out of it haha

Does anyone have any experience with Pirelli scorpion atr in our hudson valley environment? I am in desperate need of tires and can get them for $144 a tire plus tax. Free mount valence alignment in a 285/75r16. I've been reading mixed reviews, oddly enough, every negative review I find is from a ford f150. Just looking for any jeep specific experience. Thanks guys And gals.

Are 31 inch tires good in the snow? I want to change my tires and hear they are not good for snow

Diameter makes no real difference. The tread design and to a lesser degree the width will affect your traction in snow. Any good AT should serve you well in adverse weather.

I had 33" BFG AT on my las Jeep, and they absolutely sucked in rain and snow. Zero traction.

I had 31x10.5 cooper discoverer atr on my tj (just put on some 285/75r16 mt's) anyway, they served me well last winter, though it was quite mild. Tire reviews are very subjective. Bottom line, a good all terrain should do fairly well in the snow, but if you can't drive in the dry, don't expect to buy a "magic" tire that grips.

Hey guys, not sure if this is 100% the correct spot but would like to keep this local. I unfortunately had to trade my JK in today. I am selling my 1 year old BesTop Trek Top NX. It was bought new in May and used for only this past summer. It was installed on a 2012 Jk Unlimited. I am asking $600 and will not ship. I am located in Wappingers Falls and can meet at a middle point if its not too far away. Thanks for reading....Ted

You guys are killin' me! The monthly meeting was during my midterm, and now the meet&greet is when I have to be in CT?!

I might be able to stop on my way down there to say hi.
