I was in montauk on January 2nd and I went to Hither Hills and Montauk point and everything looked fine. I just went to mess around really haha. Also, I went to Sore thumb/cedar beach before that. Looked fine to me..but Democrat point is still closed.

Btw, I saw your username..do you have a camaro too? I have a 92 RS. I'm in NYTHIRDGEN if you've ever heard of it!

Smiths point is closed and in really rough shape. It's going to take a lot of work to get open this summer. I'm going to see if they need volunteers

I will talk to everyone Friday about volunteering at smiths point. I called Suffolk County Parks dept today and spoke to the supervisors assistant. Waiting to hear back from the supervisor to see if there's anything we can do to help if anyone is interested. This will probably be set up for March.

I'm surprised to hear about Cedar and Sore Thumb being open, I just passed by there the other day and the opening just past Oak Beach looked closed; as in, there were barricades up. Are you guys accessing these beaches from a different location? Or am I just confusing beaches? Thanks

Suffolk County Government > Departments > Parks > Recreational Activities > Off Roading

As far as smiths point goes I have been speaking to some of the reconstruction/disaster personnel and there are multiple breaches apparently its doing damage (more) to the inlet Sotheby's are gonna repair it don't know when. Anyway they said it will be opened but it looks like with limited access/range

Not very promising. I usually get the Suffolk permit. I was thinking about getting the state permit this year but after seeing Moses and most of ocean parkway today I'm just going to wait for something to open before I buy a permit

For the Suffolk county permit you must first purchase a green key before you can get the permit. Permits are available now.

There's talk of Gilgo being open late in the season. Smiths point is highly unlikely.

Smiths point is open not for the trails but to drive up on the beach. It's the Suffolk county permit. I know for sure you can buy it at smiths point and the west Sayville country club. The pass opens up a few beaches and will run you about $95 plus a green key if you don't have one yet. The window to buy the state permit ( sore thumb, democrat point, etc) is over it ended sometime in April or may.

Yea I'm pretty sure you have to wait till labor day to get the pass again. Just want to say, I was only asked to show my permit once. I was there during the week and only a few people were there but somebody called the cops saying two wranglers were driving on the dunes. I happened to be there with a wrangler buddy and the officer obviously thought it was us even though it wasn't(possibly a jealous hummer owner). He asked us to show our permits and that was all. Funny, on weekends I see tons of people driving on the dunes...this is at sore thumb by the way.

I was there on saturday night at like 10pm and you had to sort of drive on the dunes in order to get down to the other end of the beach at sore thumb. Its easy to get lost!

My friend just picked up a 2001 cherokee and he won't be able to get a beach pass either..
