Long island, ny

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and just wanted to introduce myself. I picked up my first jeep, 2008 jku. I was finally able to get my outer beach permit for suffolk county. I was wondering if anyone has been to Hither Hill for off roading? When I was doing the bike to Montawk I saw the entrance for it but needed my permit... And a truck... If anyone knows a group that like to take a trip out there let me know. It looked like it could be a blast

Hey I don't have a Freaking clue of anything up here... as I just moved and am getting settled in. I will be in Far Rockaway once settled so would love to go Jeeping up on Long Island... What are these permits you speak of? I need a Friggin' permit to drive my Jeep up here?

For suffolk county you need a permit for the beach. Finally made it to the outer beach and It was well worth it. Long island is pretty strick.

Tanman did you have to show fishing gear to get the permit? As far as I know the beach permits in Nassau and Suffolk are *techincally* for fishing, not any sort of recreational off roading. Not sure in what way it's enforced though since I've never tried it. A buddy of mine with a permit has told me that occasionally cops will do rounds and check that you have fishing gear and are using it.

Either way, I'm still trying to clean all the sand and rot out of the chassis of this YJ before I go and add to it.

I used to take my ram on the beach, not allowed to have larger than 33" tires I had 38's, have to have something to shit in, a shovel, fishing gear, wood for jacking point or as a ramp, and other stuff. I only know those items cause of the tickets I recieved. But I have a wrangler now that im working on and would like to meet someone who has a yj or knows about them to pick there brain. person before me took this thing apart so there are things missing and cut wires etc. I work in Farmingdale, live in PointLookout Long beach area, and work on wrangler in Hicksville.

You dont need fishing gear if your there for a day trip. After 10pm then you need a fishing pole for everyone in the car. I was there today and didn't have any problems.

Hey guys!

I am from Long Island also! Nassau County, Oceanside.

Anyone good to go where no permits are necessary? I wont have my 4x4 fishing permit till after Labor day when they start giving them out again.

I believe posting anything of outlaw 4x4 is frowned upon on any forum but it's like like there really anything on long island. The cops have been getting tougher for what i've been hearing

Oh boy.. Yeah the law is cracking down! I was at smiths point last week after 10.. And we got the whole nine yards from the park police.. It was almost as entertaining as a broadway show. They came quite dangerously, speeding through the sand at us and scared the crap out of the girls we were with.. And me.. Everybody got tickets.. Yay !! Thank you !! Yay!

It's been a while in think there are 2 permits you can get. The State which you need fishing equipment and Suffolk County for Smiths Point. Which is best? No crazy on the beach.

The NY State 4x4 permits are essentially fishing permits...you need to have all of the gear indicated on the permit plus fishing equipment with you anytime you are on the beach. You are required to air down and speed limit is 15 MPH max. I'm not sure about the suffolk county outer beach requirements.

Sounds like a pain to 4x4 on Long Island. Any spots where we meet on the hard top?

There's usually a small group that meets up at D&B in Farmingdale on Friday nights. In the summers, a few Jeeps used to be at the Bald Hill car shows on Tuesday nights...nothing major though. I was almost thinking of doing a D&B meet in Islandia for all the easties out here. I'm also on JK-Forum and see whenever they have meets planned

What are the details for the Jan 6 meeting in Queens? I'd like to attend if I'm not working and got some free time.

Anyone going to St. Patrick's in Smithtown tomorrow? A few of the guys over at JK Forum are going, and we plan on going as well. 8-4 tomorrow, details are on the Church's website. Let's rally up, take our tops off (giggity) and go!
