Off-Roading on Long Island?

Anyone know any spots to off-road on Long Island? I own a Jeep Wrangler unlimited 4 door. Only place I went so far is off exit 68 of the LIE.

There are no legal off road sites on Long Island, with the exception of beaches with permits. If you're caught, your vehicle can be impounded. Just saying.

So basically the closest good place to wheel is Rausch Creek in Tremont, PA. Otherwise you can join a club that has access to private land. New York sucks for Offroading

And idk how long ago you went to that spot, but I know now they've cracked down big time, and as was said, you can and probably will get your vehicle impounded. I know some people who did, and it was thousands of dollars to get them back. not worth it

Any one looking for another jeep to add to their club? I would love to run with a few other wranglers wether it's a local late night private run or an organized NJ or PA run. I am near exit 51 LIE.

Just bought a wrangler. I live near exit 59. Mainly go to sore thumb on the beach off of the ocean parkway in the Babylon area. Democrat point is nice too.

We do live on a island, so any real off roading will be West or North of us. Sand is what you will find on this island. You will find some spots, but they are not legal anyway. Stick to the beaches and keep your jeep out of impound. With good weather coming they will be looking for us in the good spots anyway. And if you find a good spot, keep your mouth shut and don't post it. Other folks my have the same spot, don't ruin it!

This is sad news. I was hoping to find somewhere on the island to off road. I think there are some trails upstate in Sullivan county. About a 3 hour drive. Being from Long Island, I would also be interested in a local club if anyone knows of one.

Mirrors

Can anyone recommend the best mirrors for removing the doors. I won't do it frequently so I am thinking mirrors that mount to the door hinges make the most sense.

I live on Long Island as well. I buy my beach pass every year, and have to wait 2 months before I can hit the beach because of the Piper clovers.

I think all the Jeeps should get together and write to Albany about making the new land that was just donated by the brookhaven lab, should be used for trails when the birds are nesting on the beach.

We have to write to Albany, because it is state ground. We must all write and request that this land be used for recreational 4 wheel drive use.

Long Island needs it. It will bring tourism . Maybe even Jeep Jamboree will come here! !

I Completely agree . It would give the people that live on the Island, and PAY TAXES on the Island and opportunity to enjoy the pass time that they love, without having to travel 3 to 4 hours every time they want to wheel. Also the events and family time is also on key. More businesses would open on the island for off-roading . All positives!!

I second that idea. Any idea who in Albany we should write to? If you know, please post it here and everyone can send a like to all the keepers they know. Had a similar idea, except it was for a private wheeling park on the land of pilgrim state that the owner seems to be doing nothing with except slow destroying all those beautiful old buildings

I am trying to find out who to talk to about this issue, and it is a big issue!
Once I find out who to email in Albany , we should all send an email to that person and tell him/her how badly we need a recreational area for our jeeps that is legal here on the island.

How about we storm Albany with a huge convoy of jeeps and off-road vehicles to show the that we mean business . Letters and emails will help , but news worthily shit is what helps. We should have a voice when it comes to the money that we pay in taxes on Long Island . If we protest and volunteer to help build this space ,maybe they will give us one.

I'm from Long Island too (just signed up on WF today). I don't know much about this new land that opened up, but I love the idea of creating designated wheeling areas. As far as beach driving goes, I know LIBBA seems to be very organized and fought Albany for a lot of the small amount of beach access we do have. Maybe reach out to LIBBA for advice?

Are there any organized off roading clubs on the island?

a couple weeks ago, I would research who to contact in Albany about our beach pass being only half season at Smith Point, because of the Piping Clover.
We need a place on State ground to 4 wheel drive trails on legal property, and I suggest the old brookhaven lab property, that was just recently donated to the state of New York.
the person to contact in Albany is First Assemblyman Palumbo.
by the way, I like the idea of storming Albany with all Jeeps and I off roading vehicles to show we mean business on Long Island. We need legal land for trails!

I have Been following Your posts. NY State already makes a boatload of cash for the beach permits..It seems logical they would make more for a more traditional off road area. I have been to My local Senators office at the capital(Kemp Hannon)twice in the past. He has always Been receptive. I will call his office and find out when a good time is to rally Albany. We don't want to plan a rally when they are in recess. This would have to go to The Nassau and Suffolk Town Supervisors as well as The County Supervisors. If anyone thinks this is a good start, let Me know! I don't want to be the only one on the Capital steps with My ball joints hanging out!!
