The tri state 2014 expedition trip

Hey everyone, I figured I would post this thread here so that people interested in this trip can have a place to post their ideas, express their concerns, and general chit chat. We will discuss gear, planning, locations (some), scheduling, etc. This trip will be an incredible experience and will definitely be worth your time, money, and vacation days. Myself along with Lou (Matador) are going to oversee the planning and participation of this trip. Space WILL be limited in terms of how many rigs we are going to take with us, although we can discuss that (how many) in this thread. This will be the trip of a lifetime (only until the trip in 2015 ) and you will NOT forget it.

Here are some of the locations you can expect to wheel through on this trip...

And many more. I will update this thread with ideas, questions, asking for opinions, etc. I hope to see many of you on this trip, I will personally help you convince the wives, and anything else you may need to make this experience one for you to remember. So, chat away!

I don't want to exclude members without high dollar rigs, so some of the items will have to be optional, although like I said, we would have a lot of ground to cover, so doing anything crazy might make for a fun 1/2 a day (until you break something) but then you ruin the rest of your vacation. The gear that everyone must bring along will be posted on here further down the road, when we decide what time of year we go, where we go, etc.

Ohh no worries, I won't have a "high-dollar mod'd rig" basic lift, wheels, tires and a winch. You think the "Wrangler Forum powers to be" would allow you all to move this thread in the main area? I don't live in NY and would of never seen it if not for the other thread?

I am interested. Lets get some dates to start planning vacation time from work and petty cash. Thanks.

I dont think that would be a good idea because in all honesty, Lou and I are just a couple of guys. We aren't a big company that can plan and coordinate a massive 100 Jeep event. As a result, we need to limit the amount of rigs coming along otherwise it would take an entire day to get through a couple of obstacles, not to mention, we will never find enough campsites and permits to bring that many rigs through. Believe me, as much as I would love to have a huge wrangler forum crew, I just know it would not be feasible, which is why we are going to start with the NYC and the area crew, and once everyone from here has secured a spot (we will talk about securing a spot later on), I will open it up to others from around the country. Again, not being a d!ck or anything, just ensuring that people that spend good money and give up vacation days for this have nothing but a stellar trip. It's nothing personal.

Well, cash won't be *that* petty, but I get your point. Im not going to run anyone's credit check, but people should be aware that things come up, and if we need to spend the night at the only hotel nearby, and it's $100 a night, you can't be so financially strapped that it becomes a problem.

As for times, that depends on where we want to go. If we want Utah and desert fun, the cooler the better, so spring or fall would be ideal. If people want mountain passes, that would have to be July-September. The trip will require a MINIMUM of 10 days, but people have the freedom to bail at 7. If someone is unable to commit at least 7 days, then the trip is probably not for them. If people can do 14 days, then the trip becomes even better, especially if you bring passengers.

Haha. Easier sale to the wife if we refer to it as petty cash.

Totally interested. Just picked up my brand new 2014 and planning out my mods over the next couple months.
Any ideas what will be "mandatory" modifications so I can put them on my Short list? ie I don't want to pick up 33" tires and 35" tall tires are mandatory.

There will be no mandatory mods like that. As far as the jeep itself is concerned, the only mandatory is that it is in good working order and it runs perfectly. No noises no surprised. Mandatory will be gear, ie, a minimum of 4 gallons of extra gas, 3 gallons of water transport, etc. I will say that at least 33s and skids would probably be a wise idea though.

All details will be posted here but everyone can put their two cents in, throw in a location they'd like to visit, etc.

Just read through your Jeeping across the USA post. Looks like a lot of fun. Those views and trails look breath taking.

So how is the planning going? I've already started to work on getting my rig up to par.

Currently battling between 33's and 35's pretty much decided to go with 35's, swap in a set of 4.56's with TT's front and rear. Over kill for this trip? haha

Trip planning slowed down for a short period so that I can plan my new rig build. Once the rig is done I will take a drive to Moab in the winter (always wanted to visit the red rock in the winter) and scout some locations. Maybe someone will be interested in taking a mini vacation and rolling with.

What is the time frame looking like?

I'm sure we can gather a few rigs for the trip.

Most likely none of you will be able to go...Im planning on going over my birthday...so Sometime between Dec. 20th to Jan 5th or so. The wife has a lot of days off during that time, so it makes it easier, not to mention, hotels are dirt cheap. Im not a loud New Year's person, so spending new years inside a canyon sounds great to me.

NO lol, the problem in winter is if its just cold your fine, but, after snow and it melts the next day cause it hits 50; the the trails get soft.. then comes night, "soft" turns to frozen
