Places to go in Upstate.

It's kind of a long drive but if you go up to exit 22 on I87 then turn left off the exit; there are some pretty decent trails up that way. They look like roads but turn into trails. I recommend just exploring the area. Also there is Mettowee. Just google that and you can find their facebook page and directions. Have fun

I realized early on there wasn't much off-roading parks near my college that's in troy, NY. My friend and I have resorted to exploring and finding our own 4x4 runs. This is fun in its own right and embodies what having a Wrangler is about. We usually will go on Google maps and look for state parks or state forests and head out towards these places. Along the way if we see a dirt road or gravel road we will take it and see where it goes (we do respect posted signs). Sometimes we don't make it to our destination for a few hours because we get side tracked in a good way. The state parks and state forest have plenty of forest and trails around them. One nice state park gate keeper even directed us where a good place for off-roading was on the winter trail of their park. This may all seem like common sense however don't be afraid to explore. You may find good runs where you would never expect it.

Would love to know some of the places you found if you don't mind sharing. I just bought my jeep a few months ago and would love to get it off road....

The winter entrance to grafton lakes state park had some trails. Nothing too difficult but a good place to start. Road got washed out down the trail when we explored there in the fall. Hopefully they fixed it so we can go farther.

The winter entrance to Grafton Lakes is about a 1/4 mile further down the road from the main entrance.

My friend and I have also had luck at cherry plain state park just riding around in those areas. We will probably check out Taconic Ridge state forest in the coming weeks to. I'll let you know how it goes.

Don't sell a stock Jeep short. I've done some pretty crazy stuff in my stock JK. You may bottom out easier but that's what the skid plates are for.

Trust me I'm not selling my Jeep short. This is my DD and my weekend warrior all rolled into 1. I'm just looking to put 33 on it and a leveling kit or a BB nothing to crazy. I'd love to go bigger with it but it's just not in budget.... at this time. I'm not sure how far east you go but let me know if you ever want to hook up somewhere in between and explore. Maybe we can some people here to all join up for a ride somewhere.
