Those are roads, in NY unless it's privately owned no more off-roading, you can thank idiots years ago for lying to the dec in court to get motor vehicles banned from the land, meanwhile the one motor use that was doing what they were bitching about was allowed to remain as long as snow was covering the land....
We need to revolt and remove even with extreme prejudice every person holding office and dismantle the corrupt dec that does no REAL world testing and just makes up unlawful land use rules.

Hello, I don't mean to butt in but this thread peaked my interest. I do not own a jeep but I recently bought a 1978 chevrolet k20 and i am looking to do some mild offroading. I went mudding with my friend once but it started to get a little boring driving around in circles plus my truck has an all wheel drive transfer case so i could not really have the mud fun a 2 wheel drive can. Anyway I use this truck as a daily driver and it is 100% stock. I am located in red hook ny 12571. I don't have anybody to go offroading with nor do I know any places local to go. I am looking for somewhere local and someone to possibly go with for some fun and in case i get stuck or break something. Thank you.

I found a decent path to drive on in Mayfield, NY, which is about 10 min north of Amsterdam (about 45 minutes from Albany for me)

Tolmantown Road is a logging road that goes through a mountain, it starts out as a bumpy dirt road but seems to get rougher the further you go. On top of that there are a bunch of trails that branch off of it that look really gnarly.

Tolmantown is a pretty nice ride, I'm from gloversville , which is like 5 min south. You can run it stock. The state went in and removed all the huge boulders from the trail. Used to be called the Rock cut! Nice ride though. I would recommend staying in main road unless you have lockers, winch and a buddy.

I have been checking out places to off road. I have never been off road yet. I do plan on it this coming summer. I never really found too much in NY, but I did find something interesting in PA. It is called Rousch <sp>Off Road Park. They have trails rated 1-10. The best part I thought, they will teach you how to off road and the capabilities of your Jeep, heck they even have jeeps to rent. I plan on going in the spring, then when I have a feel for it, then I will look for "on your own" places.

I've heard its awesome! Also I'm not sure if you guys know about CDJW. I just joined yesterday, it's Capital District Jeep Wrangler club. Seems to have a lot of members and they do meet ups and may have access to private land. Just an idea
