Default Is a Sahara a good JK model?

I am in the market for a Jeep and I have been looking for an 05/06 Rubicon, as I will use the Jeep just for nice weather drives (not a daily driver) and I may join an off=roading club to do some light off roading. Is an 07 Sahara a good model for this type of use - or would I be better off getting a TJ Rubi?

An X, Sahara & Sports only differ by the available equipment offered when new. Trim & comfort items. The Rubicon offers the same equipment plus Powertrain Improvments not available on the others. If you can find a Rubicon that fits your budget you can be BIG money ahead if you really get into the 4 wheeling lifestyle. As a weekend take the top off & run around any of the models will do just fine. Jeeps are amazing vehicles off road regardless of what model. Good Luck !

I agree with rthdtj, if you are going to be offroading quite a bit the Rubicon is loaded with features you would probably have to buy down the road. Front and Rear Next Generation Dana 44's, Lockers Front & Rear, Front Sway Disconnect, etc. If you price this stuff out aftermarket you will spend more down the road. Resale value on a Rubicon is far superior to any other. Just some food for thought.

If I were getting one for toy purposes, it would be the Rubi.
I got mine for 5 days of commuting and forest service roads on weekends (pretty well maintained); I chose the relative luxury of a Sahara.

It's worth it to be honest with yourself about how you'll use your Jeep...

I'd go into the 2008 models, if I was looking at an 06 or so, and I'd go "X" model, just because it saves a few $$$

I just got my 08 Sahara-U and I love it...The suspension is great...I took it on a few small trails late at night and it was awesome...The sahara has a beefier suspension over the Unlimited-X, comes with Bigger wheels and tires and better shocks.

The Sahara comes with bling-ish 18" wheels and not-so-special tires ---- I wasn't aware of any suspension upgrades...
...are you sure about that? I mean, my Sahara is the apple of my eye and I love it; but you can get to a 32" tire easier and cheaper on 17" wheels...

I'm hoping for some better aftermarket rubber for the Sahara someday. I don't really feel like buying 17" wheels; I like the way the stockers look and I'm not going to mod this thing all to hell...

You can buy an S model X with a Locking rear and a swaybar disco for the same or less than the Sahara(locker/swaybar disco isnt an option on the Sahara)..this will give you a VERY capable Jeep for less money that the Rubi or the Sahara ..I have a 2 door optioned this way and it is a freakin billygoat....if we had alot of rocks here Ida bought a rubi but we dont...Gary
