    Hey Dan!

    I've done that fire road in SB before....super easy, but great vistas.

    I strongly suggest you check that the road is open though....last year it was closed about halfway through (no idea why).

    Also, there is another fire road down into the Solvang side of the mountains (it intersects just East of the old Reagan ranch) that is interesting also.

    Just FYI....have a great time!

    There's still a few more weeks of tolerable temps if you can make it up there....and LOTS more beginner/intermediate trails too...lots.
    If you like DV....or geology....or the desert....you won't be disapointed.
