Thats IG If It comes down to it, thats what Ill do. I still wana try and get it myself though, maybe better light and gettin it cleaner will do the trick. Im it doesnt really matter, Im going to run 33s no matter what It is, Im just curious. and I dont plan on going bigger anytime soon so no biggie.

I figure its 3.73. I was going to try the axle turn method but dont feel like dragging the jack out of the garage thats filled with stuff through the snow to my jeep right now :P
I can try to remove it and clean, but well see. Im pretty sure I have drums in my rear just for the record :P
and i dont not believe it was modified before.
anyways like I said theres no way I can clean the rear tag, its COATED in some type of spray.
probably in my numbers the 6 is a 7, so that makes 3.73

|Jerry Bransford||With the exception of the Rubicon, all TJs with the rear Dana 44 axle option come with 3.73 gearing from the factory. If both axle tags are intact which show the axle ratio as below, odds are your TJ still has 3.73.|

Or what you can do is get a build sheet from your local dealer. It'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know about your jeep.

I think all d44 non Rubicons in TJ's are 3.73, drum brakes and no ABS

look at the rear diff tag at the 9' o'clock posistion here...
To clean it off spray some degreaser on it and use a steel/metal wire brush.
Other than that...with a factory D44 in your 00 sahara...3.73's with the rare option of 3.55 stock.
If the gears were changed...jack the rear up and spin the tire one full rotation and count the rotations of the d-shaft.

|GoldenSahara00||A little more info, Im running 31s and its a 3 speed auto. It has plenty of power still, so Im not too worried about 33s. It can gain speed up hills but, take a good bit of gas :P this is typical on jeeps, so again not to worried. that all leads me to believe that I have a 3.73 or higher.|

trying to read my gears... like a puzzle
well I figured Id check out my gears so I knew how my baby was gona run when I got the 33s. My back tag on my D44 is completely unreadable. I think they guy who had it before me may have had it sprayed with some type of undercarriage stuff?! or theres just that much grime from never cleaning it... ;( but my front tag on the d30 , I can read all the seriel numbers along the top, and on the bottom it looks like
x03(4?)6(3 or a 5)x88
x's are numbers I cant read.
I was thinking it could be 4.56, but I dont know if that likely?
its a 2000 sahara with the d30 front d44 rear.
at first I though it was 3.3x or 3.5x but I dont know.
what gear came stock on my model? Im really trying to work this out. Id supply a picture but, I dont think it would help at all. too unclear. I had to scrub at it with fantastic and a tooth brush, then use spit and a rag, then wet it with water and use a very bright flashlight, while staring for 15 minutes just to get that far^
