Scout Damn it he's already flipping me off.

Nope, no rust problems here in West Texas. We have some really big snakes though.

George T. well i believe he s doing it for that cheap because of my best friends dad. they are really good friends. He told me that most people would charge me 12-1500. So im assuming its because of the faja. I really didnt think i had that much rust for NY car thats almost 14 years old. You guys must not be from around here.

First of all forgive me because I had forgotten how much rust you have on your Jeep. I think if someone were to repaint it and do ALL of the necessary body work and rust repair for $ 700 then that would be a steal. As a matter of fact it almost sounds too good to be true. I'm not knocking the guy, his price or his work but I've always believed that you get what you pay for (in most cases).

Resale value in your situtation? It probably wouldn't hurt you as much knowing that you need to do something to it before the cancer spreads.

Think about it this way - If you took your vehicle (Jeep or whatever) down to the local dealership to trade it in and they found out it had been repainted the first thing out of their mouth will be "What the hell happened to it to need a complete paint job?" The same thing will apply if you're selling it to an individual too. That vehicle will always have a story attached to it and it will always leave the next guy wondering what really happened to it.

Basically if I had my choice between buying two EXACT Jeeps on a used car lot (same everything - miles, color and equipment etc) and one was a complete repaint and the other still had the original factory paint, I'd buy the one with the original paint everytime. So would the majority of the buying public. Mainly due to the fact that the one with the original paint doesn't have a "story" attached to it that they'll have to explain to the next guy. Make sense?

Which one of the two would you buy?

Same color paint? Repaint is a repaint. The color doesn't matter.

JCS05Rubi 700 is CHEAP.. Like.. scary cheap... MACCO or Earl Shabb cheap...

Even my buddy that has his own little garage (does restorations on the side), he does work for friends real cheap, like most the time just the cost of beer. He wouldnt even do a complete paint job for 700. The cost of materials would be close to that.. Let alone all the rust work and everything. Hmm.. I dunno, maybe I am just a pessimst, but that seems a little too good to be true? Maybe someone that just recently got into body work, and wants to "make a name" for his self? Deffinatly want to take a look at his work if you know what to look for..

payj90 There are also diffrent kinds of paint. the comersal paint is a lower quality for machinery and things that the finish does not matter. There are also single stage and, base coat clear coat. i would thing that 700 dollars is would be a good deal but find out what kind on paint hes using and how much prep work, primer so on, he would do.

dwdrums801 what if you were to re-paint your jeep the same color wou that lower your resale value

George T. its a complete paint job. I had asked him just for all the touch ups estimate. then we walked around it and he was touching(visualizing the work i assume) all the bad spots and was told me id be better off doing the whole thing than touching it up.

I wanted to change it to midnight black but then my firend was telling me that there a re all kinds of fees and nonsense that go along with it.. Registration, insurance, vin and stuff like that. is it worth that hassle and the fees to change all that?

Odhinn Awsome deal!!! I got an estimate a few months back to fix some of the scars and repaint it and the estimate was 3k 500 for the body work and 2500 to paint it.

bluvikng That is a very good deal, compared to $2,000 - $3,000 it would cost around here. Is that a total repaint, or just the rust areas, on your jeep? The way your jeep is now, I would not think that repainting it, would decrease the value of it.

Dare2BSquare Rustoleum, roller and sandpaper.

Scout It's a good price if it's a good paint job. If the guy is painting in his garage with a hole in the wall on a windy day then I'd say no. I'd ask to see some of his work before I'd let anyone paint my entire Jeep. Pop into his shop sometime and take a look at some of his work. Look for dirt in the paint or paint runs. Also look for orange peel (bumps in the surface) and look for overspray. Overspray is paint that land anywhere that it shouldn't.

One other thing to keep in mind - if you repaint your Jeep (or car) is that it will KILL your resale value.

George T. thats the estimate he gave me. My best friends dad knows him and he told me to ask him about it while dropping his name. I believe everything. Id def make sure. This wont be til next summer when i have sufficient funds for everything to be done at once and properly. Hopefully ill be done with college too, so funds will no longer be an obstacle?

but it were to b complete as you say, is that a good price?
07-15-2007 12:18 AM
Scout Door jambs and inside the engine compartment included in that? Is it complete?
