With that being said you might as well upgrade your u-joints at the same time to CTM's or something. With the upgraded shafts the ears won't really be a problem. The problem you are going to have is if you break something you are breaking a part that is not 100% readily accessible with anyone your wheelin with or at the local off road shop. You are going to have order new ones. If you stick with stock then you have a lot better chance getting home from the trail and finding a replacement right away.

Remember nothing is bullet proof. You just have to minimize the damage and the down time.

rich1014 thanks for the advice. . . I guess I'd better look at it closer. Another concern is that it's also a daily driver and I have to weigh the performance against the loss in fuel economy. I only get 14 now. . .

1BLKJP Unless you have a Rubicon and you bought your jeep from the dealer you have 27 spline shafts in the front and 30 in the rear. However I personally don't think there is enough of a performance gain to go from 3.73 to 4.10 to justify the cost. If your going to do it might as well head to 4.56 at least.

rich1014 so I probably have 27 in front, 30 in rear? What this is all about is that I need to decide if I'm regearing before I get lockers. It would only make sense to do it all at once. . . I'm kinda inclined to got to 4.10 anyway. . . Just gotta be sure.

1BLKJP Uh, Your Dana 30 is not going to have 30 splines shafts in it stock from the factory. It's going to be 27 spline shafts. Only the Rubicon 44 model has factory 30 spline shafts in the front.

What that site is referring to is the carrier break over point. With 3.54 and down you have one carrier/locker and for 3.73 and up you have a different carrier/locker. If you read down a little further on the site you provided then you will see the Dana 30 -27 spline 3.73 and up ARB option. What that site is referring to when referencing Dana 30 - 30 spline is for what is called Super 30 kits which upgrade your shafts to 30 spline from 27 and offer a new locker.

But the information is correct about the rear 44. It is 30 spline from the factory.

30 spline?

I have an 05 tj, 3.73, 30 in front, 44 in rear. I want to put lockers on and have been looking at OX or ARB. How do I tell if I have 27 or 30 spline without opening and counting?
