Undead-89 It will work until it falls out and then you will have to stick it back in again. all the cable is is a spinning cable in a housing.

Speedometer Cable

So while removing the dash to paint it... I pulled the speedometer gauge to hard and broke the plastic piece that connects the cable to the back of the speedometer. It's the nut/bolt that connects the end of the cable to the back of the speedometer. Cable is still connected on both ends...

If is still connected to the speedometer... my question is:

Do I need to replace the whole cable or will the speedometer still work even though the nut/screw that holds it to the back of the speedometer is broke?
