|yooper_josh||mine actually wasn't the ignition switch. there was a connection uner the hood that was unplugged and for some reason it caused a different wire to melt the casing and it shorted out. replaced the wire and plugged the connection back in and now she runs like a champ again. taking her out wheeling this afternoon. yours sounds like the ignition switch to me, have fun, it's a PITA|

was it the ign switch??
trying to figure out exactly what happened to mine this morning. it was starting to crank then nothing and the red lights above the wheel went out and nothing would happen when i turn the key. im guessing my ignition switch went out?

|yooper_josh||I'm headed out to go look at it and check the fuses and swap in a new ignition switch since it's only ten bucks.|

|Undead-89||Did you check all the fuses?|

|yooper_josh||It wasn't the ground so I'm thinking it probably is the ignition switch since nothing at all comes on when i turn the key|

Could also be the ignition switch on the column under the dash.

|89JEEPYJ||Fusable links. When you turn the key does certain things work and certain dont?? I had a fusable link problem and i was dead driving down the road. For a quick fix you can probably jump out the coil and start it with a screw driver|

So I was coming home from work and all of the sudden my Jeep (1989 YJ 4.2L 5 speed manual) just cut out like I turned off the ignition. I tried to start it back up and nothing, absolutely nothing. It was acting like the battery wasn't hooked up, nothing at all came on. I cleaned the terminals and cables, and hooked up jumper cables, still nothing. Tried hooking cables straight to the battery cables, thus eliminating the battery from the equation, still nothing. I'm hoping it's a ground wire or a relay or something simple, but I'm not sure. I haven't had a chance to dig too deep yet, but I was just wondering if any of you guys had any similar problems or any insight into what the likely causes might be. Thanks in advance.
