The trouble is that you've got to pick one or the other, and then, for whichever one you choose, it's ridiculously expensive to get a factory version of the other.
The effect is that Jeep makes it very difficult to have it "both ways."
Personally, I think Jeff's got it right with the Bestop Element Doors. Buy the factory full steel doors, including the power windows/locks if you want them, and then for less than $800 you get a set of half doors that can also convert to tube doors. (The factory halfs can't do that.)
Absent getting lucky and pulling a set of doors off a wrecked Jeep or some such thing, it's the most economical way to have it both ways.
By contrast, if you go with factory half doors, you'll almost surely never be willing to spend the $$$ to get factory full steel doors. Further, there's not many aftermarket options for those (are there any??) and certainly none that will get you power windows/locks without a lot of effort.

|clear lake jeepn||Factory half doors here....LOVE THEM!!! not only do they look better in my opinion....but are a breeze to get on and off thanks to the decreased weight.|

|zaitcev||You are very lucky to see them. My town is overflowing with TJs and JKs, but I never saw genuine Chrysler half-doors even once. They were an absolute pain in the rear to buy for several years. Even now you need to know how to order them, and then you need to paint and install them. The price difference is not that much, but it exists especially with tube doors. So most people just bought 3rd party half-doors. Most of those match the look of the jeep poorly.|

I went with full doors and then bought the Bestop Element Doors with the enclosure kit, which amounts to half doors for a fraction of the price.
Best of both worlds.

|chucky cheese||Love the half doors. Take the top half off and you are almost doorless. As for security, now days it's smash and grab. If they don't cut your window they will smash it. Or cut the top or rear.|

I have full doors on my JK, had the halfs on my YJ...
I miss the halfs in the summer, but not in the winter...
Unzipping isn't a big deal, just a trade off...and a wet leg occasionally.

Half Doors or Full Doors?
Ok, so my plan to buy a new 2011 Wrangler has changed to looking for a used 2007-2010. I've started looking earlier than I planned because my POS Saturn Vue is about to die. I've seen several in my area and some have full metal doors and some have the half metal doors. I know the pros and cons for both. The full metal doors would probably be the better choice for me (the metal doors offer more security and convenience; I can go with the power window/locks option and be windows down in seconds; I occasionally go to drive-throughs, not a lot) but I like the look of the half doors better on the wrangler. I guess my question is: How many of you have just the half doors and how much of a pain is unzipping the windows when you need to have them on and need to go to the drive-through?
