Why u quote me? Makes no sense to modify a sport. I myself don't have time to do such modifications. Come spring going to look into an 05/06 rubicon. But yes I did ask the ? like the original poster of this thread back a ways : p

jeffk42 Of course I wouldn't mind having a Rubicon, but

1) Based on the type of off-roading I do, it is unlikely that I'll ever NEED a Dana 44 front or 4:1 TC ratio.

2) I have already formed an attachment to my Sport, and I wouldn't be able to sell it.

I'll go the slow route, upgrading as it becomes necessary for me. In the end it'll probably be cheaper because I won't need some of that expensive stuff, and some of it I'll be able to upgrade at a lower price (i.e. I won't need e-discos, I'll go with a cheaper, manual alternative).

Then, when my baby is paid off in 2016, I'll go buy a 75th Anniversary model Rubicon and have TWO awesome Jeeps. At least, that's how it happens in my dreams.

TrueNorth I think Chrysler made a mistake when they dropped the "Off Road" package option on the X.
Maybe they realized it was too much competiton and dropped the option to boost Rubicon sales.
I bought a very well equipped 07 X that was almost 15 grand below the Rubicon at the time.21k vs 35k.

At the time the "Off Road" package option included:
4:10 axles, Dana44 limited slip differential, 4:1 low ratio transfer case, HD springs and nitro shocks, 17" alloys with BFG mud terrians, full skid plates, fog lights, tow hooks, hard top, power convenience group, AC, adjustable seat, bluetooth and of course the "Trail Rated" badges in my favorite "Jeep Green" color.

If I had to go out and buy all this stuff the yes, I might as well kick down the extra 15 grand for the Rubicon.
At the time it was a very inexpensive option and the X has proven to be even more capable off road then I ever expected.
Beats the pants off my modifed XJ and 4Runner.

Just waiting for a Rubi take off front axle and ARB air locker for the rear to make it complete.

exactly...doesn't matter if the Sahara came with 20's...still on a 32" tall tire.




Anyway...to the original poster...If you want a Rubicon, sell the sport and buy one.
Otherwise just be happy with the sport and build it as you go. Add your own wheels and tires, suspension...ect...

kjeeper10 Asked this very same ? And was my very 1st post on any forum... The general consensus was "why? The money you would spend to do so you can take and modify your sport to take on a rubi" and "if you really stuck on having a rubi, trade your sport in and buy a used model and you will save in the long run".

Nothing has change since I still have a sport and I still want a rubicon : )

TrueNorth Hey Avalon I've got a set of HD coils you can have.

I took them out at 10K and put in Old Man Emu HD's.
I'm in West Seattle if you wan't em.

07XMan2Door I paid thousands less for my used 07 than I would have for a similar used Rubi. I took a portion of that cash & upfitted mine to wheel much much better than it did stock.

As stated above, it all depends on what you are going to put your jeep through. I have gone up obstacles in Moab W/O spinning a tire or scraping anything, only to have to pull a stock jeep up the same line, scraping, clanging & banging all the way up.

Trails rated a 5 or 6 out of ten is all I'll ever do. They have 24 to 30 inch ledges & very steep accents & decents. I've never needed a front locker, (even in snow) a winch, or more lift to run them W/O damage. If I wanted to do the uglier stuff I would have built a buggy, lol.

My details are in my sig, good luck with your build, I'd definatley keep you jeep & mod it up to where you need it. That being said, if I were to wake up tomorrow & see Rubicon stickers on my hood, it would be a great day!!!

Kate ..and if you're going to do all of that (as listed above) you may as well plan on better gears, bigger tires and do the other little things that even Rubi owners do to make it more trail ready.

You can get the limited-slip rear differential in a Sahara. Mine has it... I believe it was only an option if you got the 3.73 gears though (I could be wrong about that).

They have only been making the rubicon since 2003, but the wrangler has been the king of offroad since it was called a willys.

A lot of people, myself included, prefer to buy the sport and build it up over buying a Rubicon. So yes, its good enough.

As others have said, the Sport is a GREAT 4x4 vehicle. Any Wrangler is a very, capable off-road vehicle.

X2, a good point that a lot of people forget is how cheap it is to beef these things up. Ive put aftermarket bumpers on an xterra, frontier, and discovery, and Ive never paid less than 800 for one, not to mention how much more expensive lifts and parts are for other offroad vehicles. I put a winch and bumper and lift on my wrangler for under a grand.

rics1997 Really though you could get as an option just about everything a Rubi had through the different packages be it S, mountain, islander, Sahara or just special orders except the first six listed.

• Dana 44 HD front axle
• front & rear locking differentials
• Gear operated limited-slip rear differential (no clutches) when not locked
• 4:1 transfer case ratio (instead of 2.72 ratio)
• 4.10 axle ratio (instead of 3.21 or 3.73)
• electronic disconnect front anti-sway bar

Avalon786 My 2010 base Sport (base, not the S) came with the driver seat that is adjustable in height. Did not come with leather steering wheel, or AC, or power windows/locks...

35" will be fine with a 2" lift. Note that if you add a lift and big tires your mpg and power will go down.

Read this: Lets Solve the Stock Springs Question

The only thing you can count on from a Rubicon suspension is gas shocks. The coils could be anywhere within the entire mid to high range.

I didn't see anything that shows a height difference. The wheels have nothing to do with it since they both sit on 32" tires.

Yes. Rubi has gas shocks, sahara/sport have hydro shocks.

Chrysler has a number of different coil springs they use in Wrangler suspensions. Hard tops, 4 doors, tow packages, and Rubis tend to get stiffer springs. A result of the stiffer springs is to effectively lift the Jeep.

I doubt that about the Sahara.

Go to Jeeps website and compare the two. It's a very slight height difference but the Saraha does sit higher probably due to the Saraha has 18in wheel and the Rubi 17in.

SeaComms Main differences - front and rear diff locks (the sport has the Electronic Brake Lock diff which simply applies brakes to a spinning wheel) D44 front diff (heavy/stronger than the D35 on the Sport), lower ratio transfer case for super slow crawling (4.1:1 instead of 2.4:1 or something like that), 4.1:1 diffs instead of 3.21:1, slightly stiffer suspension and usually a bit better shocks, electric front swaybar disconnect.

I think that about it
