I had the same thought, certainly could be the catalytic converter. Once those go south they pretty much weld themselves shut inside.

MAF/MAP sensor, TPS, CPS if it has one (I don't know what sensors are on the Jeeps, my YJ had a v8 conversion when I got it and it is old school technology). Jeepin91YJ My idea would be fuel pressure regulator or clogged fuel filter. Or like he said with starter maybe silinoid is bad.

Undead-89 Okay when I here won't crank i think won't turn over which makes me think starter, but since you took it to a mechanic I'm guessing that isn't what you mean. Does this have a throttle body injector? When you are saying it is getting gas to the engine are you seeing it come out of the Injector in the throttle body and into the Intake Manifold?

Is the linkage from the pedal to the Throttle body connected?
Did you try to replace the Autoshutoff Relay in the engine compartment?
If the Exhaust system is plugged that could also prevent it from working properly though I think it would at least give a pop or two before not starting.
Do all your pulleys (AC, Alternator, Power Steering, waterpump, except the Harmonic balancer) spin fairly freely?

My Mechanic & I can't find the issue, Help Please!

I have a 1992 2.3 Jeep Wrangler that I bought last summer with a 1996 engine in it. Its my first Jeep and hasn't given me any issues really until now. I'm driving down the road one day and my engine slowly starts to die and then sputters out. I tried down shifting when this occurred to no avail, and the accelerator wasn't giving it any gas. The problem is, IT WON'T CRANK.

The fuel pump works, gas is getting to the engine. I checked the timing chain, no issues with that. I bought a new distributor for it, and the fusion core is fine as its getting spark. My mechanic tried a new computer module with it and it still wouldn't crank. The mechanic said he can't find anything wrong with it and that the engine probably has internal damage. I'm hoping that's not the case, but honestly I have no idea what else could be wrong with it.

Please help, any feedback is greatly appreciated!
