|dwags||hey ajorosa when you removed the skid plate did the transfer case actually suspend itself while you got the skid plate out of the way? I started bringing mine down last night and saw the transfer case coming down with it and I jacked it back up... If the transfer case hangs on its own I'd like to remove my skid plate and then like you suggested use the jack to support it while I crank on the exhaust bolts.|

|ajorosa||I had to remove the skid plate to remove mine. It's the only way, make sure you support the transfer case with a jack.|

You can reach the nut on the muffler clamp without removing anything. It's a 9/16" I think. Then slide off the two exhaust hangers and you are good to go.
That's if your muffler pipe isn't rusted together with the midpipe/cat section. I'm having a hell of a time pulling mine apart.

Tips for removing original muffler & tailpipe??
I have an 01 Tj with 4.0.
Do I have to remove the skid-plate to reach those rusty old nuts and bolts on the muffler??? I hope not. Anyone know what size the nuts are?
I know, I know, Haynes manual.
