commanche axles

does anyone know how close an 87 commanche d44 is to the wms-wms of a wrangler?

1BLKJP Yes you are right. I'm trying to think of the name of how they are pressed/welded in but I'm only coming up with Spot Welded on each side. What I always suggest to people with an 8.8 is to tack or throw a stitch on four sides of each tube so that you don't have problems with those welds breaking and your tubes spining.

rebelBullDawg325 i was reading and apprently the differential chunk on an 8.8 is attached to the axle tubes by a couple of pins on each side and that these can break. where as other axles have the chunk welded onto the axle tubes. i'll see if i can find the article that i read.

1BLKJP Yeah, 8.8's are c-clip, but unlike the D35 I've never seen a C-Clip break on an 8.8. Superior also now makes a C-Clip eliminator kit for the 8.8.

Yeah, it is half inch narrower than your current setup, but hell a quarter inch on each side isn't that big of a deal.

I don't know what you mean by "non welded on chunk"?

Waggy axles are a good idea also and if you are just wanting to go with junk yard axles now why not just jump up to D60's right off the bat.

rebelBullDawg325 i googled some last night and came accross some issues i dont really like about the 8.8 such as the c-clips. narrower axle and non welded on chunk i am likin this wagoneer idea though

daddyjeep Look for a wagoneer and get the D44's for the front and rear out of the same vehicle.

1BLKJP Rebel, while this board is becoming a great resource for all things wheelin. Doing a google search for things like this can prepare you for some of the other questions that you will definitely have when you are doing your project.

Scotty355 Rear: 91-01 explorer 31 spline, 95 and later have disc brakes.
I believe they only came with an open carrier or limited slip, upgrade to a true locker would be a good idea,
or search the junkyards and find a jeep dana 44, my unlimited came standard with a 44 with disc brakes. easy drop in alternative

Front: many choices, maybe find a wrecked rubicon and get the 44 out of it. or with a little bit of work a full size dana 44 out of a FSJ, gm, ford, or dodge or you can go bigger it depends on how extreme you would like to get.

axle upgrade questions

i'm looking to upgrade my 91 d35 and d30

i'm thinkin an 8.8 rear but i've got some questions. what years have disc brakes? do any of them come with lockers, if so what kind of locker is it? what do i need to look for when buying one?

next, what is a compatible front axle to search for?
