great....just great.....now maybe ~I'll~ have to consider similar.....
Can other winches fit that same space there or just the model you chose because it does fit?
Nice install job!

|aelwero||this is where the solenoid box ended up going. I opened it up and swapped the short winch cables and the long battery cables and mounted it next to the battery instead of next to the winch. as a bonus, it's much better protected from the elements, and easier to access now|

Hmmmm... All of a sudden a winch has just moved it's way up my list of "what to buy next".
Looks real good.

another stock bumper hidden winch
Wife has dubbed it the "ninja winch"
winch is the $300 10K from harbor freight. mount plate is the "no lift" TJ model plate from mile marker (the TJ plate was the flattest I could find, so there'd be less issues mounting it all upside down). forgot to take pics while we were putting it in, but it went together VERY easily. We had to cut a small notch in the lower bar that the air dam attaches to in order to clear the clutch lever on the winch. I cut the entire center section out of the stock metal inner bumper because there would have only been 1/8" of steel on either side of the fairlead with the driving light openings, and it wasn't worth trying to keep it there. had to grind the small holes on the front frame plates wider to get a wrench in there to bolt on the plate, and that was the only cutting involved with any of it. I believe that with a small amount of cutting, the stock plastic front frame cover might actually go back on, but I'm not going to bother. If one were to mod it and put it back on though, there would be no indication at all that there was even a winch in there... Solenoid box was modded so that the short leads go to the battery and the long ones go to the winch, and the solenoid box is mounted under the hood in front of the battery. I ordered a bunch of D cell maglight wall clips to attach to the license plate, and the plate will clip on over the fairlead to completely hide the winch when it isn't in use (it's tied on with 550 cord for the moment). about $380 total for all of it
